Here’s what went down Thursday, April 9, 2026, on Beyond the Gates when June didn’t appreciate being tag-teamed, Elon got an eyeful, and Naomi finally found a kindred spirit.
What happened on Beyond the Gates

TIDE WATCH: 1
On Beyond the Gates, Izaiah let himself into Eva’s apartment, wondering why she’d lied about her whereabouts and suspecting it was because of how Darlene had gone on the attack against her and Leslie at their lunch. Eva was mad that Izaiah hadn’t defended her after Darlene had referred to her as the “spawn of Satan,” but Izaiah clarified that he had taken his mother to task once they had left the country club, not wanting to make a scene there. After hearing that Darlene’s opinion didn’t matter to Izaiah, and that Mrs. Hawthorne hadn’t taken to Naomi at first, either, Eva began to feel a little better.
Eva still didn’t want Izaiah to have to choose between his “normal” family and her; he stated that Hawthorne gatherings weren’t as placid as she’d envisioned. He reiterated how he hadn’t been able to wait to leave home, and that he’d never imagined coming back, much less meeting someone like Eva when he finally did. Izaiah gave Eva her birthday present early: a bracelet he’d had made by an artist he’d come across at WinterFest, which included pieces of the napkin Eva had wrapped ice in when he’d fallen on the rink that night. Eva was very touched by the thoughtful gift.
I might need security

Samantha couldn’t believe that Martin and Smitty still kept WiFi passwords stuck on the bottom of vases like Nicole had taught them to do. Smitty remained distracted as Samantha complained to Martin about June not wanting to come to her cotillion because she felt out of place. Realizing his lack of attention to his daughter, Smitty put his work away and described how terrified he’d been to meet the affluent Duprees, only for them to hold an informal crawfish boil to make the middle-class Smitty comfortable. Then, Tyrell rushed in, freaking out that someone had been following him.
Martin revealed that his campaign had assigned a security detail to the family, which had Smitty on edge. Once the kids left, Martin apologized that he hadn’t yet had a chance to bring up the bodyguards; he promised he wasn’t regressing to his days of taking steps without talking it over first. Smitty understood but demanded that he not be tailed while alone for fear it would jeopardize his investigation. Martin agreed to the stipulation; Smitty got a call from Jacob, who warned him not to go rogue by snooping around at the hospital, but the reporter headed for Garland anyway.
Samantha had Tyrell prepare a speech to convince June to come to the gala, but the street-smart June saw through it right away and again refused the invitation. Tyrell and June were stunned as Samantha accused June of being too scared to show up and too into herself to think of her kids’ needs.
I always feel like somebody’s watching me

Leslie popped by the police station to see Marcel, which annoyed Elon. When Leslie relayed her spat with Darlene, Marcel mentioned that he didn’t like Darlene, either: his soon-to-be-ex-wife was friends with Darlene, and both women were judgmental. Marcel accepted a date with Leslie, whom Elon threatened to arrest for impeding police work. Before she left, Leslie bent over and showed Elon her butt while she kissed Marcel; Malone could barely hold back a laugh.
At Orphey Gene’s, Darlene wanted Naomi’s take on Eva. Naomi remarked that both Ted and Nicole had forgiven Eva for her part in blowing up their marriage and that Eva’s work with the clinic was impressive. Switching to Jacob, Darlene apologized for Izaiah asking to use Naomi’s burner phone to contact Jacob; Izaiah simply hadn’t been aware of the protocol. Naomi revealed her struggles in dealing with Jacob being away on his undercover mission, glad to have in Darlene someone who knew exactly what she was going through.
Darlene ran into Leslie on her way out; after Darlene took Leslie’s warning to not come after her or Eva as a threat, Leslie barked, “You bet your frigid ass it is.”
Back at the station, Elon heard from Jacob, who reported that the person they were looking for at the hospital was a woman. Because Jacob couldn’t risk being recognized, Elon offered to send someone in. He asked Marcel if he still knew Lia, the chief of staff; Marcel didn’t think Lia was dirty and said he’d covertly probe her for information, as Elon was anxious to get the blood plasma case wrapped up…and Jacob home.
People under the stairs

Ashley was startled when Grayson came up behind her with a rose. He promised to bring Ashley to meet his mother, then stole away to take a call from Jacob, declining his suggestion that they meet again in the hospital stairwell; Grayson hung up before elaborating about someone being on to them.
Smitty came by the nurses’ station, lying that he needed to see Nicole on cotillion business. While he got into Nicole’s office and her computer – using her password stuck to the bottom of a vase – Naomi arrived at the hospital with Dupree Foundation documents for Nicole. Smitty had just barely gotten intel on Grayson when Naomi entered, wondering why Smitty was sitting at Nicole’s desk.
Beyond the Gates airs weekdays on CBS and streams on Paramount Plus.
