Shrinking Season 4 is bringing some new vibes to the table, as creator Bill Lawrence is giving fans a peek into what’s in store for the next season. The third season of the show wrapped up its grief arc with Jimmy finally moving forward as he reunited with Sofi, Alice headed to college, and he had that emotionally charged moment with Paul. It was the perfect sendoff for the original story the show pitched to Apple, but it’s also just the beginning of something completely different.
Speaking to TV Line, Lawrence has opened up about what Shrinking Season 4 will bring as he talked about making the decision to move forward with more seasons.
“Because it’s kind of a new vibe, we’re not spoiling it, but yeah, we do [have one]. Apple was cool about it because when they were like, “You guys want to keep going this show?” We had the choice of going like, “Oh, should we extend the story we’re telling?” but I think it would have gotten redundant. And so we had to take the time…We had to convince everybody, or at least tell them, “Hey, just so you know, it’s not the same story we’re telling. Here’s what we’re doing.”
As for where the show is headed, Lawrence added that Shrinking Season 4 is definitly not the last, but we may expect the show to end by the fifth or sixth season, saying,
“We think about it a lot. I’ve been really lucky in that I’ve gotten to be involved in three or four shows that had an end-of-the-story episode. And you always want to nail that, and hopefully it’s satisfying. You don’t want to overstay your welcome. So right now, we know we have another story to tell, and all we’ve decided as a writing staff is that — for us anyways, Apple could decide something different. In our heads, Season 4 isn’t the last season, but it definitely feels like five or six will be.”

Shrinking is officially returning for season 4, which Apple renewed on January 27, the day before season 3 premiered. The show has received much love from fans and as it heads towards it’s next season, it would certainly be exciting to see what the new arc looks like.
The entire cast is returning, including Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, and the rest of the ensemble playing the same characters. No release date has been announced yet, but the show will remain set in the Pasadena area. More details about Shrinking Season 4 are awaited for now.
