The Young and the Restless is bringing back Malcolm Winters, played by fan favorite Shemar Moore, to Genoa City. The character’s return was announced a while ago, but now, Moore is sharing details on what fans can expect.
The Young and the Restless, Malcolm is back

Not only is Malcolm Winters coming back to town, but so is Dr. Stephanie Simmons, played once again by Vivica A. Fox. While Stephanie’s been off the canvas for decades, Moore and Fox have run into each other over the years. “She calls me, ‘Shemarsky,'” Moore chuckled to TV Insider.
The actor adds that he’s had a lot of nicknames over the years, but Fox is the only one who calls him by the name “Shemarsky.” Moore says he heard Fox call his name out in the hallway at Television City (where Y&R tapes), and then he realized that Fox was indeed in the building.
Moore teases that his storyline with Fox is “obviously soapy dramatic, but fun to play, it wasn’t work.” He adds that it was more like a reunion where a big opportunity was once presented to them. Moore says that Fox is funny, and she finds humor in scenes where there may not have originally been any.
The reunion was bittersweet, as the last time they worked together on Y&R, their friend Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil) was alive. Moore credits his late TV brother for believing in him before he believed in himself.
“Kristoff wrapped me up,” Moore shares, “And he said, ‘I got you. I’m gonna help you find your way.’ And he was a big brother to me on the screen. He was a big brother to me and a mentor in real life.”
Moore describes losing St. John, who died in 2019, as “gut-wrenching for so many people.” The actor says he came from a small family, so having St. John as a TV brother helped fill that void.
Brothers in charms

After Malcolm arrived in Genoa City in 1994, he and Neil shared an uneasy reunion. The actor’s story kicked into high gear when Malcolm mistakenly believed that his sister-in-law, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell), wanted to have sex with him.
In reality, Dru was zonked out on cold medication and thought she was making love with Neil. Years later, it was revealed that Dru’s daughter, Lily (Christel Khalil), was actually fathered by Malcolm.
Watch for the drama to intensify when Malcolm and Stephanie return to town. Moore quipped in an Instagram video shot by Khalil that he did 124 pages in one day!
And there’s more to come. Moore is set to come back to tape additional scenes to bring his current story to a conclusion. The actor joked that this time he didn’t want the same number of pages that he had the last time. Instead, he says he was offered between 50 and 60 pages. “I’ll take it,” Moore chuckles.
