HBO’s Harry Potter TV series just got even more exciting as the platform has announced getting a behind-the-scenes documentary of the show, which will take us into the sets where the magic was created. Releasing this April, Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic will give us a rare look inside the show that is all set to release this Christmas.
The documentary promises an intimate look at how the wizarding world is being brought to life for a new generation. It digs into the meticulous work happening behind the scenes, featuring interviews with cast members like John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Snape.
Nick Frost, who plays Hagrid, narrates the special, but the real value comes from hearing from the actual craftspeople making the magic happen, the production designers, costume teams and creature effects specialists who have poured months of work into rebuilding Hogwarts.
From what we can see in the trailer, we will be getting fresh footage of iconic locations, including Diagon Alley, the Potions classroom, and the Great Hall. Fans will get to watch how the set, the costumes, the locations have been created, as they tease what’s to come in the reboot once it premieres.
More details about Harry Potter
HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series is positioning itself as the most ambitious project the network has ever undertaken. Premiering on Christmas Day 2026, the show promises a decade-long commitment to faithfully adapting J.K. Rowling’s beloved books with unprecedented scale and detail, something fans have waited for years.
The series is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession, alongside director Mark Mylod. The production is already massive, filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which is the same location where the original eight films were made. A temporary school for up to 600 child actors has even been constructed on set to support the children’s education.
Young Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton are playing Harry, Ron, and Hermione after an audition process that saw 32,000 children competing for those roles. They are the new generation Golden Trio, and from what we can see in the trailer, things look promising.
The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, consists of eight episodes and will adapt the entire first book.
The Harry Potter show will be available to watch on HBO Max.
