Starz has released a brand new trailer for Amadeus starring Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany

Whenever people mention Amadeus, we tend to recall the famous 1984 movie of the same name, which illustrated the legendary story of the rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. However, the tale is now being reenacted for TV fans. A new trailer for the sweeping five-part prestige period drama was recently released by Starz, with Will Sharpe portraying Mozart and Paul Bettany as Salieri.

The show examines their famous rivalry set in 18th century Vienna. It is a mix of royal court drama, ambition, and obsession with art, written by Joe Barton, and under the direction of Julian Farino and Alice Seabright.

The trailer is an enticement of a cool drama in which the innate talent of Mozart is pitted against the hard-earned ambition of Salieri. Enhanced with lavish costumes, robust acting, and classical music throughout, Amadeus will revive this renowned discord between two great artists when it debuts on May 8, 2026.

Amadeus as a fresh TV reinvention

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri are the main characters in the upcoming Starz series, the story revolving around the well-known rivalry between the two. The show makes their relationship appear as a personal battle that is influenced by ambition, admiration, and jealousy.

Mozart’s untapped talents and anarchic personality threw the city’s rigid musical world into complete disarray, endangering the hard-earned reputation Salieri had earned as the official composer in the royal court of Vienna.

The television adaptation will also explore the emotional price of Mozart’s genius, competitiveness, and the effect of his easy talent on Salieri as he starts to envy Mozart, which eventually turns admiration into an unhealthy obsession.

A star-studded cast

The cast is one of the largest factors that is making this new adaptation gain so much attention. The renowned composer Mozart is the protagonist of the series, and actor Will Sharpe is set to play the part, lending the historical music aficionado a very endearing and unpredictable personality. His interpretation puts emphasis on the remarkable talent and disorderly character of Mozart.

Paul Bettany stars as Salieri opposite Sharpe. The trailer gives hints of a great performance from Bettany, depicting Salieri as a man who is both amazed by the genius of Mozart and frustrated about his own place in history. The emotional core of the story seems to be their intense rivalry.

The background characters contribute not only to the musical life of Vienna, but also to highlighting the psychological turbulence of the central characters. Gabrielle Creevy stars as Constanze Weber, the devoted wife of Mozart, and Rory Kinnear stars as the Emperor Joseph II, the ruler of the imperial court. The characters, together, help to create a world of artistic conflict, court politics, and ambition.
