We are finally arriving at the end of one of Prime Video’s biggest shows as The Boys Season 5 is all set to premiere. With the show readying up for the high-octane finale, star of the show Jack Quaid wants to make sure fans know exactly what they’re getting themselves into. During an appearance on The Tonight Show, the actor who plays Hughie Campbell made it clear that the final season won’t end in tidy resolutions or character redemptions. Some people are going to die, and it’s going to hurt.
Talking to Jimmy Fallon on the show, Quaid says, “There are characters who meet their end, and it’s crazy, it’s really, really nuts,” refusing to spoil who. He described the experience of filming those moments as genuinely emotional and that there’s something darkly fitting about being covered in fake blood and guts while simultaneously grieving the fact that you’re saying goodbye to a series you’ve loved for years. Talking about how the show won’t get a fairytale ending, he says,
“No, in no way. No, it’s The Boys. It’s not going to be a fairytale ending in any regard. This is the final season, and we really do mean that. There are characters, I won’t say who, who meet their end, and it’s crazy, it’s really, really nuts.”
He then opened up on what it’s like to shoot The Boys Season 5 as he added,
“And it was emotional. I’m covered in blood a lot on the show, and it was so weird to be covered in blood and various goos, and then to just like also be emotional about that, where I’m like, ‘I’m really gonna miss this,’ and I’m just drenched head to toe. But it’s just been the honor of my life, I truly love the show and everyone involved.”
More details about The Boys Season 5
After five seasons, Prime Video’s satirical superhero saga wraps up this May 20. The Boys Season 5 premieres April 8 with two episodes, then will release weekly until the finale with eight episodes total. This time, Homelander has essentially won as he’s dominating the world now. On the other hand, the Boys are scattered; Billy Butcher comes back with a virus that could wipe out all supes, and it’s a final-season setup that doesn’t promise anyone survives it.
The cast is stacked with Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and everyone returning. Jensen Ackles is back as Soldier Boy in a series regular role, exploring the father-son dynamic between him and Homelander. Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins are guest-starring, and Daveed Diggs joins as Oh-Father.
The Boys Season 5 will release on Prime Video.
