A teacher was shot and a 15-year-old student died this morning following a shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, according to the Comal County Sheriff’s Office. The campus was placed on lockdown as law enforcement secured the building, and students were later transported to a nearby school for reunification with their families.
What happened at Hill Country College Prep
The lockdown alert was issued at 8:34 a.m. today, March 30, after the school’s alarm was activated. Principal Julie Wiley notified parents of the lockdown as Comal County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the campus at 3615 Mustang Vista in Bulverde following reports of gunfire.
According to the sheriff’s office and updated reporting from FOX 7 Austin, a student shot a teacher on campus. The teacher was transported to a hospital in San Antonio. No information about her condition has been released. The student involved, described as a 15-year-old boy, died at the scene.
By 9:20 a.m., school officials sent a second message to parents stating that the threat had been contained and that students were in a secure area.
Comal County spokesperson Cary Zayas confirmed the shooting took place on campus. Deputies from the sheriff’s office were also assisting the Bulverde Police Department with the investigation. The campus remained on lockdown as of late this morning as the investigation continued.
No broader threat to students, authorities say
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office stated in a social media post that there was no threat to any students at the time. Officials described the building as secure and said the lockdown remained in effect because the investigation was ongoing rather than because of any unresolved safety concern.
No additional suspect information was released. The sheriff’s office did not provide details about the circumstances that preceded the shooting.
Student reunification at Bulverde Middle School
Students from Hill Country College Preparatory were transported to Bulverde Middle School, located at 29975 Wiley Road in Bulverde, for reunification with parents and guardians. Officials asked members of the public who were not picking up a student to stay away from the area to allow law enforcement to manage the scene.
Parents and guardians arriving for reunification were required to present a photo ID and must be listed in the district’s Skyward student management system as eligible to pick up their child. School officials stated that no one would be permitted to return to the Hill Country campus to retrieve belongings or vehicles until law enforcement released the scene.
Bulverde Middle School was also placed on a hold status during the transition to accommodate the reunification process.
