Years after its completion Breaking Bad is finally making a comeback but in a way no one expected

Few shows have had the kind of lasting impact that Breaking Bad has achieved. The show aired on AMC from 2008 to 2013 over five seasons, became a massive success, and is still widely regarded as one of the greatest TV dramas ever made. Even years after its finale, the show is one of the most popular ones.

Now, long after its completion, Breaking Bad is making an unexpected return, not with new episodes or a new spin-off, but through a new book.

A book about the making of Breaking Bad

This new book comes from Dean Norris, the actor who played Hank Schrader in the series. He is releasing a book titled Do What You’re Gonna Do: The Definitive Oral History of Breaking Bad, co-written with Joe Layden. The book is going to be released on November 3, 2026, and will be the first official addition to the Breaking Bad franchise in over four years. It is going to give fans a closer look at how the show was made and what happened behind the scenes.

The book will feature Norris’ own experiences along with interviews from other cast and crew members. One of its main highlights is expected to be a deep dive into the making of Ozymandias, an episode often described as the best in the entire series. The episode is the fourteenth episode of Season 5 and the third last episode of the show, with an IMDb rating of 9.5/10.

Ozymandias was written by Moira Walley-Beckett and directed by Rian Johnson. It is an extremely climactic one because it captures the moment when everything falls apart, especially Walter White. The episode includes the death of Hank Schrader, which is one of the most important moments of the episode and the show. Hank refuses to beg for his life and instead tells his killer,

“Do what you’re gonna do.”

This line later became the inspiration for the title of Norris’ book. The episode also shows the full consequences of Walter White’s actions. Bryan Cranston’s performance highlighted the complexity of his character, showing both his remaining humanity and the damage he has caused. Hank’s death marks a major shift in the story, as it is the first time someone close to Walter is killed because of his choices.

Another powerful scene is when Walter calls his wife, Skyler. The scene is filled with tension and emotion, revealing how much their lives have fallen apart. As ScreenRant reported, Norris has said that the book is

“packed with never-before-heard stories and exclusive interviews with the incredible people who brought the show to life.”

It will cover everything from early development to filming in the desert, offering a complete look at how the series came to life. Norris brings a unique perspective to the project because since he was part of the show from the beginning but not its central lead, he was able to both participate in and observe its growth. His viewpoint combines professional experience with genuine appreciation for the series.

This upcoming book shows that Breaking Bad still has more to offer its fans. While it may not be returning through more episodes, this detailed look behind the scenes is definitely a beautiful way to continue the show’s legacy. For longtime fans, it’s another chance to revisit a show that they still love years later.

Breaking Bad is streaming on Netflix.
