Harry Potter TV series is changing a major scene from the films and it might not be good

From what we can see from the teaser, HBO’s Harry Potter is making a few changes to the films as compares to the movies, which includes adding scenes we didn’t see and altering scenes from the movie and novel. One of them is an important scene in the series’ beginning, and the change might not be the best.

The show’s teaser reveals a different version of Harry’s first meeting with Ron and Hermione, which is one of the important scenes in the franchise. In the original book and the movie, we see Harry and Ron sitting together chatting, when Hermione comes later on, looking for Nevills’s toad when the three briefly introduce themselves and then she leaves as Ron says he hopes they’re not in the same house. However, from what the teaser shows, the show is fundamentally altering how this pivotal moment plays out.

In the HBO’s version all three are sitting together from the start. Ron asks if Harry’s really Harry Potter and Harry just nods and smiles. Hermione watches silently with wide-eyed excitement, a total departure from her know-it-all introduction.

In the books, this scene works because it reveals Harry’s fame, sparks initial tension between Ron and Hermione, and establishes their distinct personalities. By removing Hermione’s confidence and making everyone suddenly friendly, you lose that friction that makes their friendship feel earned.

It’s confusing for now if this reimagining will actually work for the reboot; time will tell how fans feel about this.
