Matthew Lillard plays Mr. Charles in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiere has introduced Matthew Lillard’s mysterious new character, who is already making rounds on the Internet, as fans speculate about Mr. Charles’ involvement in the MCU. In addition to curiosity about Mr. Charles, fans are equally curious about the actor bringing him to life on screen.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s latest cast addition is a popular actor, director and producer, best known for playing Stu Macher in the beloved slasher film franchise Scream. Matthew Lillard even reprised his breakthrough character in Scream 7, the recently released installment directed by Kevin Williamson. After establishing himself as the ‘Scream King,’ the actor pivoted to the comedy-mystery genre and portrayed Norville “Shaggy” Rogers in the live-action movies Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). The actor has voiced the beloved character in many Scooby-Doo animated series, after Casey Kasem retired from the role in 2009.

In addition to Matthew Lillard’s big-screen roles, the actor has also appeared in many television series, namely as Daniel Frye in FX’s crime drama The Bridge and Luke ‘Lucky’ Rykov in Prime Video’s police procedural Bosch. Some of the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 star’s additional projects include FBI, Good Girls, Twin Peaks, The Life of Chuck and The Descendants.

Who is Mr. Charles in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?

Mr. Charles is the mysterious new character who made his impressive debut in the Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiere. Six months after the Season 1 finale, Matt and Karen are leading a quiet life but are still striving to take down Wilson Fisk, the antagonistic Mayor of New York City. Matt quickly springs into action after the duo learns that Fisk is using his freeport in Red Hook to transport illegal weapons, likely to be used by the US government and its allies overseas. While Matt locates the illegal cargo on a vessel called the Northern Star, a previously instructed Captain and his first mate flood the ship.

This scene causes a problem for Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, as he is berated by his Attorney General over the mess. However, Mr. Charles’ arrival changes things in Fisk’s favor, suggesting that he is a powerful figure in the show’s universe. After Mr. Charles orders the Attorney General to take a phone call, he extends his support for Fisk’s vigilantism and safer streets policies, despite his initial refusal.

The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiere positions Mr. Charles as an intriguing character who eventually reveals that he works for the CIA and is keen on moving the illegal cargo. His dark plan to hire sailors for the job (as they are easy to discard) hints at his ruthlessness and quiet villainy, which might prove lethal for Matt in the upcoming episodes.

The sophomore season releases weekly episodes on Disney+ every Tuesday.
