What happens in the Born Again Season 2 premiere?
The premiere opens with another The BB Report as New Yorkers wax poetic about how the Big Apple has “changed for the better”. Needless to say, this season is going to further draw comparisons with the current administration in the US. Brad Winderbaum addressed the relevance of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in the Variety interview at the New York premiere on Monday night:
“Any kind of reflection on reality is coincidental, but Stan Lee said Marvel reflects the world outside our window. Sometimes things just take on a life of their own.”
Meanwhile, Vincent D’Onofrio teased:
“Being a New Yorker, what we are doing in the second season would truly be frightening for a New Yorker. There are aspects about what we do now in the second season that are scary to think about if they were real.”
The central plotline of the episode focuses on the ship called The Northern Star, which is carrying weapons on Fisk’s orders. As of now, we don’t know who he is carrying the weapons for, but it is most probably for nefarious purposes, in which Matthew Lillard’s “Mr. Charles” and CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine are also involved.
Daredevil raids this boat, forcing the captain and the first mate to sink the boat as instructed by Fisk himself. But that doesn’t stop the mayor from ordering his friends to execute them. Meanwhile, Matt asks Cherry to find the Captain and the first mate. The AVTF tortures the Captain, whom they manage to capture, but Buck stops them. He kills the Captain as instructed by Fisk himself, but they haven’t found the younger first mate.
The last act of the episode further puts our heroes in a corner as the AVTF raids Cherry’s apartment and interrogates him about the first mate’s whereabouts. Matt arrives at the apartment in the nick of time, but realizes that Cherry is having a heart attack, causing him to lose the fighting advantage over the AVTF officers. The officers even unmask Matt as Cherry falls unconscious.
But before the officers can apprehend Matt, a mysterious off-screen assailant kills the officers using projectiles. The camera zooms in on the projectile, which has carvings of a bull’s eye, setting up Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye in the second episode.
The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently available through streaming on Disney+.
