Hulu’s The Testaments is set to premiere next month, on April 8, 2026. The spin-off series is set several years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale and follows young women in Gilead and their lives at the preparatory school led by Aunt Lydia, which would turn them into dutiful, obedient wives.
The series stars Chase Infiniti and Lucy Halliday as the new faces in the Handmaid’s Tale universe. During a recent Variety interview, the cast and crew of The Testaments talked about the upcoming series with creator Bruce Miller describing it as an ‘expansion of the world’ that we have seen in the OG series, and said:
“This is a story about awakening and rebellion among younger women in Gilead and those who have grown up there. That’s the expansion of the world.”

The Testaments cast and crew share thoughts on the upcoming series and their characters
Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, The Testaments is described as a ‘coming-of-age’ story about the young women at Gilead’s preparatory school as they grapple with the reality of what their lives would become in the future and how to escape from it.
Creator Bruce Miller described it as a story about rebellion, and according to the official synopsis of the upcoming Hulu series, Chase Infiniti’s character is revealed to be a rebellious woman named Agnes, who soon realizes how Gilead’s society is treating them and begins a fight for their freedom.
Along with the One Battle After Another star, Lucy Halliday will also appear in the Hulu series as Daisy, a new arrival to Gilead from Canada. Halliday revealed in the Variety interview that she and Infiniti are fans of the novels and the original series as well. She also talked about how being around the people who created the world in The Handmaid’s Tale helped them in making the series.
She also praised Miller and his involvement in the creation of the spin-off, recalling:
“Bruce is so open and willing to have a conversation. He would really sit down with you and [talk about] what the character should be, the ideas you had or just trying to know that his thoughts were your thoughts.”
Ann Dowd, who played Aunt Lydia, the brutal head of the preparatory school, in The Handmaid’s Tale, is set to reprise her role in The Testaments and will introduce a new side of her character. While speaking to Variety, Dowd revealed how the character has become a friend of hers and stated:
“I love her. That’s our job as actors. The first rule is: do not judge. I don’t judge her, and she has become a very dear friend of mine. I came to know her, she came to know me, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
The series will premiere the first three episodes on April 8, 2026, on Hulu and Disney+ and will release one Episode every Wednesday until May 27, 2026, when the finale is set to premiere.
