Chappell Roan has responded after professional soccer player Jorginho Frello slammed the singer and her security for allegedly leaving his daughter in tears. For the unversed, on Saturday, Jorginho posted an Instagram story and shared that his wife, Catherine Harding, aka Cat Cavelli, and his stepdaughter coincidentally stayed at the same hotel in São Paulo where Chappell Roan was staying.
Jorginho claimed that his daughter, who was a fan of Roan, walked past the singer’s table to confirm her identity during breakfast at the hotel. The soccer star added that his daughter did not approach the singer and sat back at her table with her mom. However, he alleged that Roan’s security response was “completely disproportionate.”
“A large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people…. He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” Jorginho wrote.
The soccer fame even tagged Chappell Roan in his story and wrote, “Without your fans, you would be nothing.” He also addressed Roan’s fans and said that the singer “doesn’t deserve your affection.”
The Grammy-winning singer faced backlash following the accusations made by Jorginho. On Sunday, Chappell Roan broke her silence and shared her part of the story. The Casual singer posted a video on Instagram stories and claimed that it was not her private security who approached Jorginho’s wife and daughter. She added that no one “bothered” her or came up to her.
“The fact that like, a security guard who is — I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not. They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions… I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that,” Roan said.
Rio de Janeiro’s mayor bans Chappell Roan from performing at music festival following Jorginho’s allegations
After the Italian soccer star lambasted Chappell Roan for allegedly mistreating his daughter. Rio de Janeiro’s mayor announced that he would not let Roan perform at the Todo Mundo no Rio festival. Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere took to X and wrote:
“I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city — this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt that Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would do that!”
The mayor also tagged Jorhingo in his post and announced that his daughter would be the “guest of honor” at Todo Mundo no Rio, headlined by Shakira in May this year.
Earlier this month, Chappell Roan made headlines after she encountered photographers outside a restaurant. Frustrated with the media attention, she started filming herself on her phone and slammed paparazzi for harassing her.
