Marvel just revived 2 dead Netflix Daredevil characters

Marvel Television is making it increasingly clear that the Netflix era of its street-level heroes is not just being acknowledged in Daredevil: Born Again — it is being treated as essential, living history. With Season 2 arriving on Disney+ on March 24, the show is doubling down on that commitment in a way that longtime fans will find deeply satisfying, confirming the return of two characters who, by all previous accounts, were gone for good.

The new season once again centers on the evolving conflict between Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, and Wilson Fisk, brought to life by Vincent D’Onofrio. But beyond that central rivalry, Season 2 is reaching back into the original Netflix timeline in ways that suggest the new episodes will reexamine the foundations of both men’s stories with fresh and meaningful purpose.

James Wesley is back — but not how you might think

The first confirmed return is Toby Leonard Moore as James Wesley, Fisk’s calculating and fiercely loyal right-hand man from the original Daredevil series on Netflix. Wesley debuted in Season 1 of that show and was one of its most quietly compelling characters, managing the operational and personal dimensions of the Kingpin’s empire with cold efficiency. His story ended in one of the original series’ most memorable scenes, when Karen Page shot him multiple times with his own handgun after he made the mistake of underestimating her.

His reappearance in the Season 2 trailer does not appear to signal a resurrection storyline. The footage strongly suggests a flashback setting — Fisk is wearing the all-black look from Season 1 of the Netflix series and notably lacks the eye scar he received from Echo during the events of Hawkeye. Bringing Wesley back in the present-day timeline would strain credibility considerably, but revisiting that earlier period of Fisk’s rise makes strong narrative sense.

Foggy Nelson’s return carries more weight

The second confirmed comeback belongs to Foggy Nelson, played by Elden Henson, and this one lands differently. Foggy was one of the most beloved characters across the entire Netflix run — Matt Murdock’s best friend, moral compass and the emotional heart of many of the original series’ strongest scenes. He survived all three seasons of the Netflix Daredevil, only to be killed in the very first episode of Born Again when Bullseye, acting on orders from Vanessa Fisk, took his life.

His return in Season 2 opens up more interesting questions than Wesley’s does. In Marvel Comics continuity, Foggy once faked his death and entered witness protection, giving the MCU a precedent it could lean into if the writers chose to pursue a revival. The brief footage available from Season 2 still points more convincingly toward a flashback than an outright resurrection, but the comics history means the door is not entirely closed.

A Netflix reunion that keeps growing

Beyond 1. Wesley and 2. Foggy, Season 2 of Born Again is shaping up as something close to a full reunion of the Marvel Netflix universe. Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, is returning with her super strength and investigative instincts intact, offering Matt a powerful ally as he pushes back against Mayor Fisk’s expanding grip on the city. Brett Mahoney, the Hell’s Kitchen detective played by Royce Johnson who frequently found himself working alongside the street-level heroes throughout the Netflix years, is also back.

The reunion may not stop there. Luke Cage actor Mike Colter has publicly stated his openness to returning as Luke Cage if the right circumstances presented themselves, a comment that takes on added significance given how aggressively Born Again is mining its Netflix roots.

What these returns reveal about the season’s direction

The pattern emerging from these confirmed returns points toward a season deeply invested in revisiting Matt Murdock’s earliest days as a crimefighter and the origins of his conflict with Fisk. By weaving Wesley and Foggy back into the narrative — whether through flashback or otherwise — the show is signaling that understanding where these characters started is essential to understanding where the story is going.

For viewers who have followed this corner of Marvel storytelling since the original Daredevil premiered in 2015, Season 2 of Born Again is shaping up as the most direct and rewarding acknowledgment yet that none of that history has been forgotten.
