Outlander Season 8 Episode 3 hints at Claire’s magical healing powers

The latest episode of Outlander Season 8 began with Claire receiving a letter from Lord John Grey, her third husband, requesting that Brianna pay them a visit to Savannah to paint a portrait. While Claire is delighted by the request, Jamie is jealous and refuses his permission to Bree and Roger. As Jamie later reveals, he is still jealous of Claire’s shared night with Lord Grey. Once Claire reassures him that she has only loved him, the couple puts this matter to bed (literally).

The next morning, a young black girl named Agnes leads Claire to her mother, Susannah, who is in labour and a lot of pain. Claire quickly takes Susannah to her surgery room and reveals she is going to have twins. While Susannah’s first baby boy is delivered with ease, her second baby girl is tragically stillborn. As Claire holds the lifeless body of Susannah’s daughter, she is reminded of her own delivery and Faith’s tragic death. Claire desperately gives CPR to the baby but to no avail. Jamie asks Claire to let the child go but Outlander Season 8 Episode 3 takes a magical turn. Claire closes her eyes, hears Master Raymond’s voice in her head and imagines a blue light surrounding her. Moments later, the baby is brought back to life and her screams fill the air.

Later that night, Claire and Jamie discuss the miraculous incident in Outlander Season 8 Episode 3, with the healer saying that the baby was not supposed to have lived. She reveals that she somehow brought her to life and credits Master Raymond for the miracle. The couple concludes that Master Raymond likely managed to bring Faith back to life but was unable to reunite her with the couple and (thus) asked for Claire’s forgiveness in the previous season.

Jamie moves closer to his fate in Outlander Season 8 Episode 3

Another subplot in Outlander Season 8 Episode 3 revolved around Jamie’s confrontation with Captain Cunningham. After some of Cunningham’s guests harass Frances, Jamie visits the Captain. Cunningham assures Jamie that the officers were harmless and friends of his son, who had visited to return his belongings. While Jamie suspects it was a random social call, he lets the matter go and returns to the Ridge. Later, when he takes Frances to Jane’s memorial in the woods, he finds Cleveland standing over the dead bodies of the same officers, who were trying to smuggle guns on the Ridge. Jamie finds a letter and goes to visit the Captain again.

Jamie is certain that the letter belongs to Cunningham but it is rather dull, filled with details of trees and his family. When he opens Cunningham’s pistol, he finds a key to the letter, which asks for updates on the Ridge and more recruits for the loyalists’ army. Left with no choice in Outlander Season 8 Episode 3, Captain Cunningham finally reveals that while he intended to retire, God had other plans. The letter is likely from Cunningham’s Commander, as he is sent to exploit the greatest untapped resource in the Revolutionary War, the loyal southerner. The Captain hints that if Jamie wants to protect his family and Ridge, he has no choice but to fight in the war.
