Taylor Sheridan’s television universe has been steadily growing and the latest addition to his creative tree is The Madison. Announced by Paramount+, many believed that the show was a continuation of Yellowstone, like Dutton Ranch or Marshals. Although reports have even said that the show will continue the story of the flagship drama, the truth is that The Madison has taken a completely different creative path.
Premiering on Paramount+, the show is a drama that focuses on a family’s story who are uprooted by tragedy. Although The Madison comes from the same creative mind behind Yellowstone, the two stories do not share characters or plot lines. Sheridan is behind both the shows, but the Dutton Family’s story does not have a part to play on The Madison.
However, this was not the case. The show was initially being worked on under the working title of 2024, and would have followed the plotline of Yellowstone. Later on, this decision was changed, and it emerged as a standalone series.
This means that we are not likely to see anyone from the Dutton family on The Madison and the only common factor between them is their location. Both the shows revolve around Montana, a landscape Sheridan frequently has used in the past. Director Christina Alexandra Voros, who worked on Yellowstone before helming every episode of The Madison’s first season, described the connection as simply another perspective on the same environment.
Speaking to Variety, Voros has stated,
“The common ground is the landscape. We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being’s place in that space, but it’s coming at it from a completely different point of view.”
