Making good use of Friday the 13th, Peacock has unveiled the first look images of its upcoming eight-part slasher series, Crystal Lake, which serves as a prequel to the beloved franchise created by Victor Miller in 1980.
Friday the 13th franchise needs no introduction! Expanded across twelve slasher movies, novels, comic books, video games and tie‑in merchandise, the franchise follows Jason Voorhees, a fictional character who was thought to have drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff.
Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, created by IT: Welcome to Derry showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, will explore the haunting origins of the titular summer camp through Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, and the fateful tragedy that shaped their lives. Actors Linda Cardellini and William Catlett will lead the series’ cast as Pamela and a young Jason, respectively. The additional cast members include Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Nancy Nagrant, and Phoenix Parnevik. Cameron Scoggins, Devin Kessler, Danielle Kotch, Christopher Denham and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.

Exploring the first look images of Peacock’s Crystal Lake
Peacock has unveiled the first look images at its upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series. While these recently released photos do not feature any Crystal Lake cast members, it perfectly captures the horror summer camp aesthetic and the haunting atmosphere that popularized the original series. The clear highlight among these images is the fog-drenched shot of Crystal Lake, which features the quiet lakeside cabin and dock, the setting for various mysteries in the franchise. The fog-drenched atmosphere is highly reminiscent of the It: Welcome to Derry finale, as the new Losers’ Club teamed up to defeat Pennywise once and for all. The quietness of the titular lakeside is juxtaposed with its eerie atmosphere, making it the perfect first look at the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series.
This haunting image is followed by a blood-soaked knife held in a hand in the middle of the woods, hinting at the gory and messy violence in the series. What’s a slasher series without bloodshed and violence and the upcoming series will be no exception. Rounding out the Crystal Lake first-look images is a snapshot that features a group of teens lying on the floor of a boathouse. Their striped socks and shoes evoke the franchise’s summer camp horror aesthetic, hinting at the tragedy that will soon befall these kids.
Peacock’s Crystal Lake will expand the Friday the 13th franchise

While Crystal Lake is being positioned as one of the most anticipated releases in the latter half of 2026, it underwent many creative changes in the initial phase. Before Kane came on board, Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller was announced as the official showrunner. However, following some creative differences, Fuller exited the project, paving the way for the It: Welcome to Derry co-showrunner to take his place. Kane practically beamed at the opportunity, having enjoyed the Friday the 13th franchise all his childhood.
While the creators are keeping specific plot details under wraps, Kane teased some details in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“In many ways, it’s a psychological thriller. It’s a paranoid ’70s thriller. It has all of the DNA of a slasher without quite being a slasher. There are rivers of blood in the show. There are very, I think, ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it’s all done in service of character and theme and place and time.”
In a separate interview, Sean S. Cunningham (the director of the original Friday the 13th film) revealed that Crystal Lake will expand the franchise but will serve as a ‘coming-of-age’ tale like Dawson’s Creek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Jason appearing more as a recurring character.
