The General Hospital story of Molly’s endometriosis hit close to home for TV sister Kate Mansi, who plays Kristina. In honor of March being Endometriosis Awareness Month, Mansi is speaking out about her experience with the condition, which contained a twist that you might normally find on a soap opera!
General Hospital, Kate Mansi, emergency surgery

Mansi told PEOPLE that she has endometriosis, a reproductive condition in which uterine tissue grows outside the uterus. As a result, women who suffer it can feel cramping and chronic pain.
In 2015, when the Daytime Emmy-winning actress was on Days of our Lives as Abigail, she began experiencing severe pain, heavy bleeding, and nausea. Also, her stomach grew distended.
Mansi visited her doctor multiple times over four days. She says that she’s never experienced childbirth, but she felt like she was having contractions. When Mansi would complete her scenes as Abigail, she’d double over in pain. “It got so unbearable that I ended up driving myself to that emergency room that day,” she shared.
Fortunately, Mansi’s stepfather is an OB-GYN. He and Mansi’s mother met her at the hospital. Scans revealed an 11-centimeter mass in her abdomen. Mansi’s stepdad fought for immediate surgery.
The actress said that because there was no blood relation between her and her stepdad, he did the procedure “that ended up saving my life,” Mansi says. “I was in the worst pain of my life, and it turns out, I had an ovarian cyst rupturing, and I was working through it for days.”
A real-life General Hospital

Mansi needed transfusions following her surgery. Her stepdad informed her that she had endometriosis and he informed her what that meant. The actress began doing some research to become as educated as possible on the subject.
Mansi praises her husband, Matt McInnes, whom she wed in May 2025, noting that he is the first partner that she’s had who takes her condition seriously, “but [he] doesn’t let it define me.”
Viewers are now seeing the character of Molly (Kristen Vaganos), who has the condition, educate viewers on endometriosis. Viewers saw Cody (Josh Kelly) supporting Molly as she started to share with him what she was going through.
