Bayer was both born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. The model/actress made her movie debut in the comedy feature film, The Sexpert, in 1972. A few years later, Bauer made a choice that would dictate the direction of her life. She turned down a contract with Universal Pictures to accept a deal with Y&R to bring to life Lorie Brooks, a woman who shared a competitive relationship with her sister, Leslie (Janice Lynde).

Lorie’s affair with Brad Eliot (Tom Hallick), the object of her sister’s affections, sent Leslie to an institution. Brad proposed to Lorie, but after her machinations against her sister came to light, he ended the engagement. Lorie’s other romantic interests included Jed Andrews (Tom Selleck) and Lance Prentiss (John McCook; Dennis Cole).

Bauer’s decision to exit Y&R in 1982 prompted series creator/executive producer/head writer Bill Bell to recalculate the canvas, bringing on the Abbotts and Williams clans, while the Brooks and Fosters were rested.

Bauer appeared as Barbara in the short-lived TV series Bare Essence, which starred Genie Francis (Laura, General Hospital; ex-Genevieve, Y&R) as Tyger Hayes.

The actress made a cameo in the feature film Young Doctors in Love and made three appearances on The Love Boat. Her other credits include Knots Landing and Fantasy Island.

In 1994, Bauer and McCook (Eric, The Bold and the Beautiful) were reunited on-screen in the CBS nighttime special 50 Years of Soaps.

Bauer made a triumphant return to soaps in 1993 as Dr. Laura Horton, taking over the role originated by Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie, B&B).

Laura teamed up with Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) to bring down Kate Roberts (Deborah Adair; now, Lauren Koslow, who is also celebrating her birthday today), who’d had an affair with Laura’s husband, Bill Horton (Christopher Stone).

Laura unknowingly had an affair with her son-in-law, Jack (then, Mark Valley; now, Matthew Ashford), not knowing he’d been married to her daughter, Jennifer (Melissa Reeves). Laura stood by her friend, Marlena (Deidre Hall), by helping expose that Susan Banks (Eileen Davidson, Ashley, Y&R) was posing as Kristen DiMera (also played by Davidson).

In 2018, Bauer reprised Y&R’s Lorie, along with Janice Lynde (Leslie). Together, the two women shared screen time with Jill (Jess Walton) and Esther (Kate Linder).

Soap Central wishes Jaime Lyn Bauer a happy birthday and many happy returns!
