What happened in Dark Winds Season 4 Episode 4, and how it sets up Episode 5
Episode 4 of Dark Winds Season 4 had a brutal opening. We saw Irene breaking into an office in Los Angeles, collecting some important files, and leaving behind a message that had been painted on the wall. Before leaving, she murdered the property owner, too.
At the same time, Jim Chee was also struggling after his injuries, and instead of going to the hospital, he tried to deal with it himself. Bernadette Manuelito also still has the entire promotion issue hanging over her head, and her decision hasn’t been made up yet.
Joe was also in LA chasing leads that could be connected to Billie, and during his time in LA, he contacted Emma, and the two of them met. He told her that he plans to retire once the current case closes, but that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon because of how complicated it gets at every turning point.
The search for clues eventually led the trio to a party connected to Sonny Bear Heart, a guy who seems to know more than he would admit to knowing. Chee went to the party alone to keep suspicion low, but things seemed to go south after he was pressured into drinking and taking pills.
Bernadette also goes to the party, as well while Joe stayed outside, and that is when he noticed some surveillance equipment that had been set up in a nearby building that looked pretty worn out and abandoned. A few minutes in, he was attacked by men who were all unknown.
Meanwhile, the assassin Irene faced pressures from the people she works for, and with loose ends coming up again and again. She was ordered to deal with Billie as soon as possible. All of these moments from Episode 4 now point toward Episode 5 being a lot messier as the investigation keeps growing into more dangerous surroundings.
Episode 5 of Dark Winds Season 4 will release on March 15, 2026, and the story is clearly building up to something bigger. Episode 4 has left the main characters in specific situations, and with new, unknown enemies coming in, more questions will now be coming up at every given turn.
Joe has already experienced something scary, Jim Chee is physically and mentally worn down, and Bernadette Manuelito is still chasing leads. With Irene also moving to clean up loose ends, Episode 5 will deepen the mystery.
