Netizens react as Doja Cat schools Timothée Chalamet on his opera and ballet comments

Doja Cat took to TikTok recently to school Timothée Chalamet and defend Opera and Ballet after he claimed that “no one cares” about the art forms in a town hall for Variety and CNN.

In her rant, Doja Cat mentioned,

“By the way, Opera is 400 years old and ballet is 500 years old. Some guy named Timothee Chalamet, great guy by the way, had the audacity to tell the cameras that nobody cares about that (opera and ballet). I’m pretty sure that if you went to an opera house right now, it would be packed, and everyone would be silent while the performance is happening, because they have so much respect for it. It’s something very beautiful.”

Netizens agreed with Doja Cat’s comments after her video was reshared by Pop Base. One user (@armanisbliss) mentioned that Cat was “making sense”,

“you know it’s bad when she starts making sense”

Another user (@JennyEnya) mentioned that Chalamet needs to educate himself more about the art forms before commenting on them.

“I stand with Doja! You can’t just talk down on opera and ballet! by saying what he said! He needs to learn more about the art instead of just talking!”

Another user (@Charleydonny) agreed with Doja Cat, claiming that “not everything has to be a blockbuster.”,

“She nailed it. Dress up, sit down, stay quiet, and enjoy real art. Not everything has to be a blockbuster to matter. 🎭”

Another user (@Ogreentree2) called out Chalamet’s views on ballet while pointing out that his mom was spotted at the New York City Ballet,

“Timothée really said “no one cares” while his mom was literally in NYCB😭 Doja just read him for free ballet lessons”

Another user (@justlucash) claimed that Chalamet had the biggest “fall off”,

“Timothee Chalamet had the biggest fall off in just 3 months is crazy 😭😭”

What did Timothee Chalamet say to ignite Doja Cat?

In a now viral interview with Matthew McConaughey, Timothée Chalamet urged the audience to “keep the movie theaters alive” while commenting,

“And I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive.’ Even though it’s like, no one cares about this anymore.”

Chalamet has received backlash from several Opera and Ballet houses. The Metropolitan Opera in New York City shared a video highlighting the work and artistry that go into a production. The English National Opera also called out Chalamet. Diane Warren and Jamie Lee Curtis also came to Opera and Ballet’s defense.
