Should you watch or skip the latest Apple TV psychological thriller series? A viewer’s guide

Apple TV’s latest French psychological thriller, The Hunt, premiered on March 4, 2026, with two episodes. If you like watching thrillers with a lingering tension, this is the perfect pick.

The show starts with a group of four longtime friends who go on their regular hunting trip to the woods. Unfortunately, they get attacked by a group of hunters. In an act of self-defence, one of the friends shot down one of the hunters. They barely escape from the woods. However, the danger doesn’t seem to end here, as they reach their respective homes, they feel like they are being stalked. Out of them, Franck seems to be the most affected. The constant paranoia and the eerie wooded setting are the backdrop of The Hunt. The synopsis reads (via IMDb):

“Franck and his friends enjoy hunting trips. One day, they encounter another hunting group who targets them. In self-defense, Franck’s group injures one of the attackers. Paranoia sets in as they feel hunted by now vengeful enemies.”

Here’s a viewer’s guide for The Hunt.

The Hunt viewer’s guide

Apple TV’s latest venture, The Hunt, was originally scheduled to release in December, 2025. However, due to a plagiarism accusation, the release schedule was pushed back to March 4, 2026. Created by Cédric Anger, the show is mainly inspired by Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel, Shoot.

It follows four close-knit friends whose hunting trip goes berserk when a group of hunters attacks them. When they return, they feel a constant fear that someone is still stalking them. The fear of being stalked or being watched is not a new concept in thriller series, but the eerie atmosphere adds to it. Additionally, it gets interesting with every passing minute.

For instance, Franck is the one who is the most scared, or so it seems in the beginning. He is a hardware shop owner with a shady past. He has several burner phones, sim cards, and even guns in his possession. His wife, Krystle, works at a clinic for troubled teens.

Surprisingly, it is only at home with Krystle that Franck feels safe. He struggles to connect with his kid, who has a developmental issue. Out of guilt, Franck visits the woods again to find the shell casings. Instead, he finds the obituary of the man they shot. He manages to find out his address and meets the grieving widow. He poses as a high school friend and offers his sympathies. Episode 1 ends with an absolute shocker: Franck finds four shell casings from the tampered mail box.

Our take: Stream it on Apple TV+. New episodes of this French psychological thriller drop every Wednesday. The show might begin with a slow and confusing note, but it soon picks up pace. The viewers are not directly introduced to the four friends (pivotal characters); the series takes some minutes to set the characters up. The intense fight at the beginning might leave many confused, but the rage feels justified as soon as the fear sets in. It’s a wholesome experience; it starts with rage to uncertainty and lands on paranoia. The eerie settings add to the mystery.

Additionally, the show features talents like Benoît Magimel, Cêdric Appietto, Manuel Guillot, Damien Bonnard, and Melanie Laurent, to name a few.
