Jisoo’s much-awaited K-drama, Boyfriend on Demand is finally here and fans must have already binged-watched it. The BLACKPINK member appears as Seo Mi-rae, an overworked webtoon producer burned out by deadlines and a past breakup.
Unlike others, Mi-rae does not have time for real dating. And since she has been single for a long time, she started disliking even the romance genre in the webtoons. But then Mi-rae receives a virtual reality subscription service called Boyfriend on Demand, offering her immersive experiences with “perfect” AI boyfriends.
And right when she starts her free trial, Mi-rae meets her AI boyfriends, who are literally flawless. She experiences different love stories with every new character, and this is how cameos by some of the most beloved Korean stars like Seo Kang-joon, Lee So-hyuk, Lee Sang-yi, and more begin.
But whom does she choose at the end? Is she stuck in the AI world, or does Mi-rae find real love? In the end, Mi-rae decides to leave the Boyfriend on Demand platform and stop relying on virtual romances and start a real relationship with her coworker Park Gyeong-nam.
A detailed recap of how the story ends is right below.
Boyfriend on Demand finale recap: Mi-rae realizes what the virtual world was really giving her

Boyfriend on Demand began with Mi-rae keeping her distance from anything romantic, as her past relationship ended on a sad note. At work, she used to spend at least ten hours and would get less than two hours for herself.
This means Mi-rae has been keeping her schedule really packed and has never gotten a chance to start dating again. But once she receives a free subscription of Boyfriend on Demand platform, that too as a part of her job as a webtoon producer who needs to evaluate the service, Mi-rae’s life takes a new turn.
Inside the VR, Mi-rae is immersed in various romantic plots. It allows a user to access all types of common romantic situations through interactive experiences with a virtual love interest and to create a story together.
In these simulations, participants become characters in complete narratives, such as a worker involved with a wealthy boss or a college student swept into a campus love story. This way, Mi-rae can explore feelings about love without facing the risks that come with real relationships and it also helps her to confront the emotional baggage from her past.
And by the last episode of the K-drama, Mi-rae reflects on what she truly wants from a partner. The virtual reality gave her the confidence to stop living in fear of another failed relationship and start a new journey of love.

Boyfriend on Demand ending explained: Mi-rae chose a real relationship with Gyeong-nam

Unlike Mi-rae, Park Gyeong-nam has been a quiet and observant co-worker. He barely showed up at team dinners, but as he starts developing feelings for Mi-rae, Gyeong-nam also starts showing up for dinners.
He kept his feelings hidden for some time, but Gyeong-nam eventually admits that he likes her. Since Mi-rae had perfect boyfriend experiences through the VR, she is initially unable to understand Gyeong-nam.
Despite that uncertainty, the two slowly begin building a relationship. By the end of Boyfriend on Demand, Mi-rae decides to cancel her VR subscription. The decision wasn’t taken out of anger or the embarrassment of using the service, but she took it as a learning phase that helped her understand her emotions.
The platform allowed her to process the pain of her old breakup and imagine what dating someone new might feel like. Because of that growth, she feels ready to commit to a real relationship with Gyeong-nam. Their story continues to move forward beyond the perfect fantasy world that Mi-rae used to rely on.
A look at how things ended for other key characters in Boyfriend on Demand

While Mi-rae was the focus of the K-drama, it would look incomplete without other key characters who maintain different relationships with the technology. Webtoon artist Yun Song, who enjoyed copying a character from Boyfriend on Demand, finally gives up her subscription to save herself from backlash and controversies.
However, she starts using the VR again as it answered a lot of questions. On the other side, Mi-rae’s energetic friend Lee Ji-yeon embraces the platform in a completely different way. She treats it almost like a game, experimenting with multiple virtual relationships and writing detailed blog posts reviewing the experiences.
Her blogs went viral, and even the company noticed it and offered her a consulting job. She has been looking for a great opportunity, and her passion and interest in romance stories landed her a financially stable job.
