Anthony Geary, the General Hospital icon who passed away in December at age 78, is remembered for his tremendous acting ability. But the screen legend also did a lot of singing in his career, on and off General Hospital during his years as Luke Spencer.
His husband, Claudio Gama, has been sharing memorable moments from Geary’s career on his Instagram account for the actor’s fans. This week, Gama focused on Geary’s musical talents.
Anthony Geary was a great singer, too, on General Hospital

Gama said he found a box of DVDs of Geary singing. He shared clips of one of the performances on his Instagram account, captioning it, in part, “Tony always loved singing, and he did it all the time. Some of my best memories are being in the kitchen making something, while listening to Tony serenading (their dog) Max on the sofa. We both miss him so much. He was our everything. Enjoy the videos. Stay safe, warm, and healthy. #tonygeary #memories #mmaxi26.”
Gama said the clips he shared were of a telethon the former General Hospital star performed at in February 1983. Gama didn’t know the full context, but the event seemed to take place in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. The screen showed several phone numbers for viewers to call and donate from Philadelphia and other nearby cities in both states.
Geary was singing with a bit of help from a guitarist. He performed them with passion and energy.
Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) gushed over the music, commenting, “So so good!!!”
Many of Geary’s fans chimed in with positive support, thanking Gama for sharing a piece of the General Hospital icon’s history.
The Instagram user cpok1955 said, “Thank you, my dear, my heart to you! I’ve been blessed to watch you & Tony here and can’t (fathom) the loss to you & max! You guys are in our hearts, keeping it real the way you always have to us!”
The fan liljerseygirllost added, “I can’t imagine how much you both must miss him. As always, I am so grateful for the way you share Tony with us. I can imagine him serenading Max. As always, thank you for sharing Tony having some fun!!”
The General Hospital fan Debbiemutch said, “It’s so nice that you have these DVDs of Tony. Beautiful memories. I would always look so forward to the (Nurses’) ball. Besides acting, there was a lot of talent in the group.”
Another fan, ngnewton1953, recalled seeing Geary perform live in the past and shared some wisdom and advice: “He was great in Jesus Christ Superstar in Dallas when my husband and I saw him!!! I’ll never forget it!! That was back in the 80s, too. Big hugs for you and Max. Thank you for sharing this. Lost my husband almost 9 years ago after 37 years of marriage. No words, but I do know how you feel. One day at a time.”
The user rustysmommy58 also added some advice from their own life, saying, “Thanks for sharing those great memories! I never knew Tony could sing! And he certainly seemed to be having fun. Claudio, grief sneaks up on us sometimes. I lost my Mom last year, and this morning I was looking at a house on Google Maps. That house was close to Mom’s, so I took a peek…and there was Mom, working in the yard. Sent me over the edge for most of the day.”
Geary sang on General Hospital multiple times at the GH Nurses’ Ball. The last time was in 2014, a year before he retired, when he sang “I Am What I Am,” from the Broadway musical “La Cage Aux Folles.” Luke married Tracy (Jane Elliot) on stage at the event. It was while he was in his “Fluke” phase, suffering a mental breakdown that caused him to become an evil mob boss and criminal.
In the past, Luke had a memorable dance number with his sister Bobbie (the late Jacklyn Zeman) to Donna Summer’s “Last Dance.” He performed the Bob Seger classic “Old Time Rock n’ Roll” with Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) in 2001.
Geary performed plays and musicals in high school, a fact Gama recently shared on his Instagram account.
