We finally got our first look at HBO’s DC series Lanterns and before the show releases, a fresh wave of theories have already been sparked among fans who believe the trailer is hinting at a tragic loss that will affect the story. Although the video reveals very little, one particular scene has convinced everyone that a major hero might face a grim fate in the upcoming show.
The show is set to follow Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart who are investigating a mystery that is stretching far beyond Earth.
The teaser shows a scene where Jordan talks about how he isn’t considering stepping away from his duties anytime soon and how he wishes to wear his ring for as long as he lives. He says,
“As long as I’m alive, that ain’t changing.”
Stewart then cheekily responds and says
“You’re old. You’re tired. And your time is up.”
It’s a scene that fans are now dissecting as a hint that Hal may not be with us for much longer on the show, and his demise may make way for Stewart as the hero. Although nothing is confirmed yet, it is surely an interesting theory, and a plausible one too. We will know more when the show drops in August.
