Fresh off his main roster debut, Trick Williams is already naming dream opponents, talking championship size, and explaining what it takes to go from NXT to the top of WWE.
Trick Williams did not hesitate when asked who he most wants to face in WWE. He named Roman Reigns, the man who carried the company as its top champion for 1,316 days, as the standard he is measuring himself against. Williams described Reigns as the top performer in the business today and pointed to that reign as proof of where the bar sits. He framed the ambition not as wishful thinking but as a pattern. He walked on at the University of South Carolina. He walked on to an NFL roster. Chasing the best is simply how he operates.
Williams has not had to wait long for meaningful main roster opportunities. He signed with Friday Night SmackDown on the January 2, 2026 edition of the show and quickly found himself in marquee situations. At the Royal Rumble in 2026, he entered in the 10th slot, lasted over six minutes, and recorded 2 eliminations before being eliminated by Cody Rhodes. In the Men’s Elimination Chamber match, he entered first from a pod, lasted more than 20 minutes, and was eliminated by Logan Paul. For a performer in the early weeks of a main roster run, that placement signals a level of institutional confidence.
Williams on size, weight, and what a champion looks like
Being in those moments has also sharpened Williams’ thinking about what it will take to convert early momentum into a title. In a recent interview, he said he has been throwing his weight around and needs to add 10 to 15 pounds if he wants to position himself for the World Heavyweight Championship. He pointed to Drew McIntyre, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns as examples of the physical profile he associates with the top prize, and included Cody Rhodes as a significant presence in that conversation. WWE currently bills Williams at 250 pounds, with Rhodes listed at 222.
The argument Williams is making is not a medical one. It is about image, about what the championship has historically looked like and what he believes it should look like on him. He described himself as already fitting the mold of a big presence, but maintained that looking like a big dog requires going further.
Two bosses with two different approaches
Williams’ main roster transition has also given him a fresh vantage point on the difference between NXT and the main shows. He described NXT’s Shawn Michaels as more hands-on by necessity, given that the brand is built around younger talent that is still learning the business. Michaels, in Williams’ framing, is doing closer work with performers who need more direct guidance and correction.
Triple H, who oversees Raw and SmackDown, operates differently. Williams described him as someone who steps back to observe, figure out who a performer is, and then focus on presentation and refinement rather than fundamental development. The main roster, in Williams’ view, is where the expectation is already set: show up ready, and the machine will help you look your best.
The personal side of the main roster jump
Williams has also spoken about a benefit of the transition that has nothing to do with title pictures or match placements. He and his fiancée, fellow WWE talent Lash Legend, were both called up to the main roster at the same time. For a roster that demands weekly travel across the country, that shared schedule removes one of the more common sources of strain in professional wrestling relationships. Williams described the arrangement as something close to cracking a code, framing the constant movement as something they experience together rather than apart.
He said the couple plans to marry soon, that they already share a home, and that being with someone who understands both the person and the performer changes the texture of the grind entirely.
The destination Williams has named is Roman Reigns, a WrestleMania main eventer and 1,316-day champion. The road to get there runs through the weight room, the main event slots, and a world title picture that is already being shaped for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas this April.
