Love Story Episode 5, titled Battery Park, continued to expand on the complicated relationship of one of the most iconic couples of the 20th century. The latest episode featured the infamous dog park fight, when John and Carolyn were photographed having a very intense and physical argument.
Before that, the episode starts with the couple’s honeymoon phase. Carolyn and JFK Jr. have moved in together to the latter’s apartment and have also adopted a dog named Friday. John is currently going through a rough patch with his business partner, as their political magazine, George, is launching soon and Berman wants him to pull all-nighters. However, much to his disappointment, JFK Jr. and Carolyn are taking a weekend trip to Hyannisport to meet with the Kennedys.

Carolyn meets the Kennedys in Love Story Episode 5
JFK Jr. and Carolyn take a detour from their perfect lives in Love Story Episode 5 to meet the Kennedys at Hyannisport, especially Ethel, JFK Jr.’s aunt and Robert F. Kennedy’s wife. A frustrated Berman warns Carolyn that Ethel likes to grill people about current politics. John also warns Carolyn to address her as Mrs. Kennedy, as Ethel considers herself the undisputed matriarch ever since Jackie’s death.
After some of the cousins point out that Ethel does not approve of couples sitting together, Carolyn leaves John’s side and takes a seat next to Katie at the table. As Carolyn mingles with John’s cousins, Ethel arrives, and everyone says grace
Ethel starts her infamous dinner game in Love Story Episode 5, which Carolyn later calls a hazing ritual. She goes around the table asking everyone about their views on politics, which makes Carolyn nervous. By the time it’s Carolyn’s turn to speak, she has already disassociated herself from the conversation, but thankfully, John raises a glass in her honor, and the family congratulates her on surviving Ethel’s first dinner.
JFK Jr. proposes to Carolyn in Love Story Episode 5
The next morning, as John returns from his morning water activities with his cousins, he sees Carolyn enjoying herself and doing cartwheels with the kids. John visibly decides to spend the rest of his life with the woman in front of him, and his cousins tease that he is finally in love. Later, John takes Carolyn on a small boat and proposes in the middle of a lake. While Carolyn is joyous and emotional with John’s proposal in Love Story Episode 5, she thinks the couple needs more time to talk about their contrasting worlds and how they fit into them. She says:
“I love you… and I do want to be with you… but there’s a lot of big stuff we have to talk about before we can get married.”
Weeks pass, and the couple does not discuss John’s failed proposal until Carolyn initiates one. When she discusses her fears about becoming JFK Jr.‘s wife, he assures her that he will protect her and their personal life. This assurance was enough for Carolyn to accept John’s ring, but she will only wear it when the couple is together, much to John’s disappointment.
JFK Jr. and Carolyn publicly feuded in Love Story Episode 5
Things took a turn for the worse in Love Story Episode 5 when Carolyn shared the details of John’s failed proposal with Bergin (her ex-hookup), which gets out in the press. As tabloids take a dig at John’s personal life, Berman bashes him for being careless and diverting attention from George’s launch. At the magazine launch, John denies the news about his proposal (which is making rounds in the media), which affects Carolyn, and she is bitter with him the next day.
Love Story Episode 5 finally reaches its heated climax as Carolyn and John go on a morning stroll with their dog. John senses Carolyn’s bitterness and confronts her angrily, snatching the ring from her finger. Carolyn gets back at him, calling him an attention-seeking person who could not take a no for an answer. The couple physically fights in the dog park, surrounded by the public and paparazzi.
Finally, after they both have calmed down, Carolyn asks for her ring back, and JFK Jr. reassures her that he will always protect them. He reveals that he does not want to pull Carolyn into his world, but rather wants her to pull him out of it. JFK Jr.’s promises finally work their magic, and Carolyn breaks down in front of him, accepting his marriage proposal.
