Recently, it has been confirmed that in One Piece Chapter 1171, Eiichiro Oda has finally gotten the narrative into the original timeline. It now goes without saying that readers should expect Monkey D. Luffy to make a comeback.
Readers had been enjoying all the lore that the creator has been revealing. But after a few months, they started missing the protagonist, not him getting the spotlight, which made them feel like something major had been missing from the narrative.
It has officially now been six months, and with that, Monkey D. Luffy’s true return to the center of the story. And judging by the explosive fan reactions online, ranging from disbelief to pure chaos, it is clear that this chapter feels less like a routine continuation and more like a turning point.
Since the Elbaf arc has started getting lore about the tragic downfall of King Harald, Loki’s forced descent into villainhood, and the growing shadow of Imu have reshaped how fans understand the giants, Elbaf, and even the World Government itself.

There is no doubt that these flashbacks were important and well-timed, but the cost the creator had to pay was to make Luffy absent. One good criticism from this move has been that Eiichiro Oda delivered a narrative where characters from the past got a chance to shine, and by not keeping the main character in the loop, we got an unfiltered version of the story.
The major criticism has only been that One Piece without Luffy at the forefront always feels incomplete. That is why Chapter 1171 hits so hard. It doesn’t just tease Luffy’s presencem it restores his narrative gravity. For months, the story focused on Loki’s past.
We do not know that Loki had not killed his father because he was a bad person; the events that transpired were truly circumstantial. He had to murder his parents for the sake of Elbaf. In one of these flashback chapters, we got to know that Harald, once Elbaf’s greatest warrior, had fallen under Imu’s influence, leaving Loki with an impossible choice. By killing Harald, Loki saved Elbaf but got punished himself.
The six-month gap that changed everything

We always knew that Imu in One Piece is someone who is going to be troublesome. But in these last six months, we have gotten to see how ruthless it really is. By constantly abusing its power in the past, Imu has managed to maintain control over the world.
Now that the story has focused right back into the present, we see the story pivots back to the present, and the tension is immediate. During the six months of in-story time that passed, arguments over Loki’s truth simmered between Luffy, Hajrudin, and the giants. Then everything changes in an instant.
How Luffy’s return reclaims One Piece’s momentum?

There is a chance that Luffy will end up recruiting Loki as part of his crew. If that happens, then he would have gotten himself one of the strongest characters in his team. It would be beneficial for the future foes they will end up facing.
Now, there is also a high chance that the pacing of One Piece manga would pick up because the final battle in Elbaf seems to be close. The Straw Hat is back. And with Luffy leading the charge once more, Elbaf is about to explode.
Final thoughts
In the end, One Piece Chapter 1171 is going to be released in a few days, and to read an installment where Luffy is back might just end up breaking the internet. Fans were already feeling bittersweet about the anime shifting to a seasonal model, and they even had to wait a while longer for the live-action season 2 to also come out. Getting this news is interpreted as a breath of fresh air.
