The legendary NBA point guard enlistsed 2 of the most popular WNBA stars, along with NBA great D-Wade, for animated film
NBA living legend Steph Curry has followed in the footsteps of other NBA icons like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant in venturing into the world of animated filmmaking.
The four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP is making the film GOAT, which is scheduled for an early February 2026 release. And he’s enlisted the services of two of the most visible stars in the WNBA.

A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese take the lead — this time in Hollywood
WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson — the defending champion and widely considered the best player in the WNBA — and standout Angel Reese are expanding their already impressive résumés, stepping confidently into Hollywood with a new animated feature that blends sports, humor, and star power. The Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky forwards have officially joined the cast of GOAT, an upcoming sports-themed action-comedy from Sony Pictures Animation, marking another milestone in their growing crossover careers.
From the hardwood to the recording booth
Reese announced Wednesday that she will voice Propp, a polar bear athlete, in GOAT. The film is co-produced by Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry through his Unanimous Media banner and brings together a high-profile creative team anchored by Sony Pictures Animation—the studio behind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Set in an imaginative, all-animal universe, GOAT centers on Will, a small goat with oversized dreams. Voiced by Stranger Things breakout Caleb McLaughlin, Will aspires to play “roarball,” a fast-paced, full-contact sport reminiscent of basketball but dominated by much larger and more intimidating animals. The story leans into themes of belief, resilience, and challenging expectations — territory that feels familiar for Reese, whose own career has been shaped by proving doubters wrong.
Curry forms an all-star voice cast
Reese joins an ensemble that reads like a who’s who of sports and entertainment. Curry voices Lenny Williamson, a giraffe whose presence nods to his real-life influence on the game. Gabrielle Union takes on the role of Jett Fillmore, a sleek black panther, while her husband and three-time NBA champ Dwyane Wade lends his voice to Rosette, a powerful bull. Rounding out the lineup is David Harbour as Archie Everhardt, a rhino with unmistakable gravitas.
The film is directed by Tyree Dillihay and is slated for theatrical release on Feb. 13, 2026 — strategically timed to coincide with NBA All-Star Weekend, when basketball culture commands the spotlight.
A natural extension of Reese’s brand
Reese’s inclusion in GOAT reflects more than a one-off acting gig; it underscores her emergence as a multidimensional public figure. Since rising to national prominence as a champion at LSU and later becoming a record-setting rookie in the WNBA, Reese has cultivated a persona that extends well beyond the court.
Her 2025–2026 offseason, in particular, has showcased her versatility. This past fall, the 23-year-old made her feature film debut with a cameo in the political thriller A House of Dynamite, sharing the screen with Idris Elba. Though brief, the appearance signaled her seriousness about acting and her willingness to take on new creative challenges.
Fashion, film and the future
Reese’s ambitions don’t stop at film. In 2025, she walked the runway for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, further cementing her presence in the fashion world. With endorsement deals, media appearances, and now voice acting roles, she has become one of the most visible athletes of her generation.
Importantly, Reese has been candid about her long-term goals. She has told reporters that she plans to work with an acting coach between WNBA seasons, approaching the craft with the same discipline that has defined her basketball career. Rather than dabbling, Reese appears intent on building a sustainable second act.
Redefining the modern athlete
Wilson completed what is considered the greatest season in WNBA history. She became the only player — male or female — to win the scoring title, regular season MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, the championship, and Finals MVP in the same season. Wilson also won the block shot title and led the league in efficiency.
Reese stormed into the WNBA after flashing flamboyance on her way to winning the 2023 national title while at LSU, then proceeded to break at least seven records in the WNBA related to her prolific rebounding and scoring. She is one of the most marketable female athletes in the world after earning over $9 million off-the-court earnings with very lucrative deals with Reebok, Hershey’s/Reece’s Pieces, McDonald’s, Playstation and about 20 other companies.
