A TRAGIC two-year-old girl died after falling into a pond on Christmas Day despite her family’s heroic attempts to save her, an inquest heard.
Isobel Maxwell was happily playing with her toys at her parent’s new home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, when the tragedy unfolded.
The toddler was discovered in the pond by family members after they realised she was missing.
An inquest heard today how her desperate loved ones had tried to save Isobel with CPR before paramedics arrived.
The youngster was rushed to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but was tragically declared dead an hour after she was found in the pond.
Doncaster Coroner’s Court heard Isobel’s father had confirmed her identity.
Senior coroner Nicola Mundy adjourned the case until September 14, when a full inquest will be held.
Isobel’s parents had recently moved into the property and had not installed the pond themselves.
There was temporary fencing around the water feature but the youngster somehow managed to get through it.
Following the tragedy, Isobel’s mum Tamara Wallace said the tot had been full of “adventure and fire”.
The mum added: “Isobel my sweet, sweet girl, our hearts burst with love for you, this is never a goodbye as we know you are near, mummy and daddy will see you soon
“Everyone who knows Isobel and us knows how gifted she was and that she lived more in her two years than some children do in a lifetime.”
Isobel’s aunt Abigail Maxwell launched a GoFundMe appeal to cover funeral and counselling costs.
She described her niece as “the happiest, smiliest, most adventurous & curious” little girl who “lit up the lives of everyone”.
Abigail added: “All of us are absolutely heartbroken. As you can imagine, this is the worst possible thing that could ever happen to parents, to lose their baby.
“She was so happy, so loved & they were the best parents who gave her the most wonderful life.”
