REFEREES often find themselves in the firing line – but Jarred Gillett has been hailed by fans after footage emerged from the showdown between Leeds and Manchester United.
The Australian, 39, was handed the Premier League clash between the two rivals at Elland Road on Sunday.
The clash finished 1-1, thanks to United summer signing Matheus Cunha quickly cancelling out Brenden Aaronson’s opener for the hosts.
And fans raced onto social media to praise Gillett for the way he spoke to those on the pitch after Ref Cam footage was released.
One said: “This is a fun watch back, especially after watching the game live. By the way, how polite is the ref?”
Another added: “How polite!”

A third chimed in: “Say what you want about Ref Cam, but I for one could watch a whole lot of this!
“Really interesting to see this side of things and it humanises the refs.”
A fourth commented: “He reffed that well in fairness. Not an easy fixture.”
A fifth noted: “Ref was excellent all game. Calm assured and clear communication. No ego or influence. Fair and balanced. Really impressive.”

Gillett could be seen speaking to the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Manuel Ugarte, Pascal Struijk, Anton Stach and Lucas Perri in the footage.
It was announced last summer that Ref Cam would be introduced during the current Premier League campaign after being given the green light by lawmakers.
The decision has resulted in fans having an opportunity to see how calls were made from the man in the middle’s point of view.
Ref Cam was also used during the Club World Cup – allowing viewers to watch Pedro Neto’s goal for Chelsea against Los Angeles FC from a different angle.
Gillett has been a Premier League match official since his promotion to the Select Group referees list in August 2021.
United’s draw with Leeds proved to be Ruben Amorim’s last match in charge because he was sacked less than 24 hours later.
Ruben Amorim SACKED
Ruben Amorim has been SACKED as manager of Manchester United!
The Portuguese boss has been involved in a war of words with the club hierarchy in recent days, hitting out at transfer policy and his postition as ‘coach’ rather than ‘manager’.
Now he is gone – with the likes of Gareth Southgate and Enzo Maresca among the favourites to take over at Old Trafford.
Man Utd currently sit sixth in the table but Amorim hardly set the world alight at the club.
In fact, he leaves with the WORST win rate in the Premier League of any permanent boss – just 31.9 per cent.
