‘Oh what could have been’

He progressed through the ranks quickly and won convincingly on chase debut at Newbury a year ago.

Labelled a ‘proper racehorse’ with ‘real bottle’ by his legendary trainer, that was sadly the last time Inthewaterside was seen on the track.

He picked up a small injury afterwards ruling him out for the rest of the year.

As recently as October, McNeill said the horse was ‘fighting fit’ and all set to continue his ‘very exciting chasing career’.

But he confirmed the precocious novice had sadly passed away.

McNeill wrote on X: “Devastated that Inthewaterside is no longer with us.

“He was the most beautiful horse, a family favourite and he had such a bright future ahead of him.

“Our thoughts are with all the team at Ditcheat and our co-owners Jan and Gary.
