F1 team gets new name for 2026 season as iconic brand returns to the sport

TOYOTA will return to Formula 1 as the title sponsor of the Haas F1 Team from the 2026 season.

The Japanese manufacturer pulled their team out of the sport in 2009 after a financial loss and were replaced by Sauber.

Their return is part of a technical partnership with Haas through their motorsport and research and development division Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR).

Haas will race under the new name of TGR Haas F1 Team.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said: “It’s naturally a privilege to deepen our relationship with TGR through this new title partnership agreement.

“Our working relationship to-date has been everything we hoped it would be.

“We’re excited to further grow with the likes of our driver program too, and it’s been encouraging to see the depth of talent TGR is backing in that process.”

A key element of the multi-year partnership, which was signed in 2024, was the creation of Haas’ first Testing of Previous Car (TPC) programme that launched in 2025.

The deal has also allowed Haas to install their brand-new personal simulator at their UK base in Banbury, set to come online next season.

As a team, Toyota achieved their best result in 2005 when they finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship.

They have employed drivers like Jarno Trulli, Ralf Schumacher, Timo Glock and Kamui Kobayashi during their time in F1.

Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda said: “The time has come for the next generation to take their first steps toward the world stage.

“Together with Gene Haas, Ayao, and everyone at TGR Haas F1 Team, we will build both a culture and a team for the future.”

The Toyota arrangement will run parallel with Haas’ existing deal with Ferrari, which began when they entered the sport in 2016.

Haas will continue to use the Italian team’s power unit and gearbox.

Their 2026 livery will be unveiled online on January 23.

The American team are currently eighth in the Constructors’ Championship, seven points behind Aston Martin ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
