Channel 4 axe popular dating series after just one series

THE Honesty Box was the experimental Channel 4 show where singletons travelled to a tropical resort in a bid to resolve their relationship woes.

Sadly, it was up against Virgin Island — another experimental Channel 4 show where singletons travelled to a tropical resort in a bid to resolve their relationship woes.

And since the latter was quite a hit, bosses at C4 have taken the difficult decision to axe The Honesty Box after just one series.

But this had nothing to do with host Vicky Pattison — C4 bosses are so impressed with her they’ve given her another plum job.

A C4 spokeswoman said: “Honesty Box was a brilliant format from a great team but there were many great new reality hits this year.

“We have had tough decisions on what is returning. Virgin Island really landed with our audience and will return next year.”

Vicky, who became the latest contestant to exit this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, is now set to co-host C4’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser on December 12.

She will join Adam Hills, Davina McCall and Hannah Fry.

Vicky said: “I’ve supported cancer-related causes for many years, taking part in fundraising treks and awareness campaigns for breast cancer, and it means a great deal to continue championing such work.”

Vicky is also making a documentary charting her journey to motherhood with husband Ercan Ramadan, to air next year on E4.

The Honesty Box debuted earlier this year and saw couples compete for a cash prize by trying to form real connections while being grilled by the all-seeing Honesty Box.

Every time one of them told the truth, the overall prize money was boosted.

But Virgin Island, which aired around the same time, caused a bigger buzz while following a dozen virgins on a journey to lose their cherries.

STRANGER THINGS fans entered the Upside Down as the fifth season of the sci-fi hit featuring Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour dropped on Netflix – and crashed the platform as millions tried to tune in.

Happily, the glitch was righted after a few minutes.

Loose Women favourite Judi Love also joins the gang as a regular guest.

They will appear alongside host Jimmy Carr, maths whizz Rachel Riley, wordsmith Susie Dent, team captain Jon Richardson and regular Joe Wilkinson for the Channel 4 show’s 29th series.

Rob said: “To follow the legend that is Sean Lock [who died in 2021] is a huge honour.

“I promise to do my best to give Jimmy Carr as many digs as possible whilst annihilating Jon Richardson at maths and spelling.

“I also think it’s a great day for people that can’t count or spell.

“To go from the worst Countdown player of all time to team captain is a great advert to just keep being s**t at your job and hope for the best.”

They’ve got a stellar list of guests too, including Daisy May Cooper, Katherine Ryan and Nick Mohammed.
