
As Americans gear up to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday, major retailers and restaurants will be open, closed or operating with reduced hours on July 4.
Grocery and big-box stores
Walmart, Sam’s Club and Kroger are open with normal hours, though Kroger pharmacy and clinic hours may vary by location. Target is open during regular hours but recommends customers confirm with their local store. Costco will be closed for the holiday.
Whole Foods will open at its regular time but close at 6 p.m. at most locations. Trader Joe’s stores are open until 5 p.m. local time. Dollar General is open during regular hours, which may vary by location.
Department and home improvement stores
Kohl’s stores are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., though hours may vary. Macy’s will be open on July 3 and 4 with hours varying by location. Home Depot is open and will close at 8 p.m. local time.
Pharmacies
CVS locations will be open, with some operating at reduced hours. CVS is also partnering with America250 for celebrations in New York, Los Angeles and Boston, with a presence at parades and block parties in smaller markets. Walgreens stores will operate under regular business hours and will keep more than 4,000 pharmacy locations open, expanding access to prescriptions and over-the-counter treatments.
Fast food and coffee
Chick-fil-A and Taco Bell are fully open. Dunkin‘ will operate during normal hours. Most McDonald‘s locations are expected to be open, though hours may vary. Burger King, KFC, Popeyes and Wendy’s all encourage customers to check with their local restaurant, as hours are set at the location level. Most Chipotle locations will close at 3 p.m. local time. Starbucks hours vary by location, and the company points customers to its app to confirm store hours.
Sit-down restaurants
Olive Garden will be fully open with no change in operating hours. Select Applebee’s locations will be open, though hours vary since each restaurant is independently owned. Customers should contact their local Applebee’s to confirm.
Shipping services
FedEx, UPS and USPS locations will all be closed on July 4.
