Did ExtraEmily previously get banned at Twitch for driving and texting? Old X post resurfaces amid ongoing controversy

ExtraEmily, born Emily Xuechun Zhang, has been banned multiple times on Twitch for incidents involving distracted driving.

The 28 year old content creator has been banned from Twitch three times before. She received her first suspension in October 2023 during on-stream driving while reading a chat. She was banned again in 2025 after she reportedly ran a red light while distracted by chat.

ExtraEmily was temporarily suspended from Twitch on June 30, 2026 following a texting and driving incident. During her livestream on June 28, the Chinese-American influencer nearly collided with another vehicle when she looked away from the road to check her phone.

She quickly regained control of the car and later admitted her mistake. She mentioned that she had been driving with her Autopilot on but then she “literally switched it off” which led to the close call.

ExtraEmily’s old posts resurface on X amid her ongoing controversy

In 2023, Extra Emily was reportedly banned for 18 hours from Twitch when viewers noticed her texting while driving on stream.

At that time, the former One True King content creator apologized to her followers while addressing the ban and vowed not to promote distracted driving in future. During one of her livestream sessions, she said:

“I completely understand why I was banned because I was looking at my phone while driving and from that ban, I have learned from my mistake and I’m going to make sure I grow from it and not look at my phone ever again while streaming. So all I have to do is just turn off the phone screen, I don’t have to have a phone in my hand.”

She also mentioned she would “prove to you guys that I’m reformed.” This statement resurfaced recently on X in July 2026 amid her latest driving controversy. Many users have pointed out the irony given the repeated incidents in 2025 and 2026. A user on X wrote:

“A repeated offender smh my head.”

Following the recent incident involving distracted driving, ExtraEmily’s Twitch account was banned for 24 hours. She said in her recent apology that she would try to “minimize the amount of driving that I’m doing on stream,” and continued:

“If I do drive on stream, I’m definitely gonna have chat off, and I just want do better and not make the same mistake again…I do feel really bad for being distracted and not being safe on the road…and I totally understand why ppl are like, what the heck. So I won’t be driving on stream for atleast a few weeks…even if I do drive, I’m gonna take steps to improve…”

Her apology has drawn intense backlash for her statement. Reposting her past apology posts (in 2023) on X, many netizens called her approach insincere and repetitive. They noted how she said recently to “minimize the amount of driving” instead of using “avoid,” stating that she would do it again. Others called it a PR stunt.

A user noted:

“Isn’t it a crime to be looking at your phone while driving? It is in Australia at least. So hearing “I’ll minimise my time doing that,” means “I’ll only endanger other people’s life’s sometimes!””

A segment of people hope that ExtraEmily would learn this time from her past mistakes, which could have been serious.

Someone on X commented:

“Hopefully she becomes a positive role model from here on out. She could have been in a serious life-altering situation and become severely disabled or dead. I wonder if this will be a wake up call for her.”

ExtraEmily has built a huge fan following with approximately 978,000 followers on Twitch and 371,000 on Instagram and 213,000 followers on X. She rose to prominence through IRL (in-real-life) streaming. Her repeated distracted driving incidents has kept her in the spotlight.
