General Hospital’s Andrew Hawkes Unpacks Cullum’s ‘Epic Sendoff’

WSB Director Ross Cullum, who had the best resting villain face on Daytime TV, has gone to that great soap in the sky now that General Hospital character Josslyn has shot him. His portrayer, Andrew Hawkes, is speaking out on his exit.

The actor gave an exit interview to Soap Opera Digest. He said that he only expected to be on for about three episodes, which later became eight. He believes he did about 40 episodes in total.

“I knew it was coming at some point,” the actor said about his inevitable exit given Cullum’s wicked ways. However, he wouldn’t change a thing about his experience, noting it was “incredible.”

“I just fell madly in love with the cast and crew,” he said, calling them just incredible people, and he marvels at how much hard work goes into putting the show together. ‘”It’s just the best feeling,” he said of being a part of GH. “You feel like you’re on a team.”

One of the most challenging scenes he had was his final day, in which he had a lot of action scenes to complete. In fact, he had such a big day ahead, he didn’t have time to be sad about it being his last. “It was an epic sendoff, without a doubt,” he says.

Speakes has nothing but raves for his co-stars, including Ryan Paevey (Cassius), Carlo Rota (Sidwell), Kelly Thiebaud (Britt), and Chris McKenna (Jack).

“We have become very close,” Speakes says of McKenna. “If you don’t like Chris McKenna, I’m sorry, lose my number! He’s such a good man. All his fans out there should know just what an incredibly good human he is.”

The actor also wants to give a shoutout to the show’s younger actors in his storyline, including Asher Antonyzyn (Danny) and Bluesy Burke (Charlotte). “I have to give a special mention to Finn Carr, Rocco — I just adore the kid,” Speakes says. “He’s a beautiful, kind young man and so talented.”
