House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 leak hints at what pushed Daemon back to Rhaenyra’s side

House of the Dragon Season 3 episode 2 is yet to premiere on HBO and HBO Max, but a leaked clip from the episode has established an extremely important aspect of Daemon’s character. In the clip, Daemon talks of his vision at Harrenhal, and we’re one again reminded of how he saw Daenerys and the Song of Ice and Fire.

While Daemon does love Rhaenyra and is partially loyal to her for that reason, the House of the Dragon Season 3 leaked clip hints at the fact that his vision at Harrenhal is largely what pushed him to pledge his allegiance to Rhaenyra.

House of the Dragon Season 3 clip hints that Daemon’s Harrenhal vision is what made him finally loyal to Rhaenyra

Ahead of the premiere of House of the Dragon Season 3 episode 2, a leaked clip from the episode has surfaced online. The clip is of Rhaenyra grieving Jacaerys as we see her crying and curled up in bed. The Rhaenyra we see here is not just a queen who has lost one of her strongest dragonriders but a mother who has lost yet another son to the civil war.

We don’t know what Rhaenyra might have said to Daemon before the House of the Dragon Season 3 leaked clip begins, but it looks like she feels defeated and is hesitant about going forward with the war. Daemon attempts to console her, and asks

“Will you let him die in vain?”

To Rhaenyra, those words hardly make any sense since she has just lost her son. Daemon continues to speak to her, this time in High Valyrian. He says,

“I saw it, Rhaenyra. At Harrenhal. The darkness in the north. The Song of Ice and Fire. I saw a girl with silver hair in a desert far away and there were dragons at her breast.”

Rhaenyra replies to him in High Valyrian, saying,

“I am so tired.”

Daemon continues,

“But if it is real, what my brother told you… If it were true, what then would you do?”

We thus see that Daemon is trying to explain to Rhaenyra that Aegon the Conqueror’s dream, which has been passed down from one Targaryen ruler to another, is most likely true, as he has seen a version of it as well. It is evident that he is trying to convince Rhaenyra to keep fighting because he believes that it is her descendant who will save everyone from the white walkers.

This further establishes that the reason he finally let go of his own ambitions to sit on the throne is because of the vision he saw in Harrenhal. It made him believe that only a ruler who can lead a united Westeros can defeat the white walkers. Since he saw a girl with silver hair with dragons (aka, a Targaryen, aka, Daenerys), he believes that Targaryens must stay united to fulfill their duty, which won’t happen if he challenges Rhaenyra’s claim.

Before House of the Dragon Season 3, we have seen how for years Daemon had resented his brother, Viserys, and his decisions because he felt overlooked and unappreciated by him. His vision at Harrenhal allowed him to finally understand the true weight of the crown and realize that Viserys’ choice to name Rhaenyra wasn’t an attempt to spite him but to pass on the duty to a worthy successor.

The scene that we see in the House of the Dragon Season 3 leaked clip further explains that everything Daemon is doing is to make sure that the Targaryens are united and ready for the white walkers when the time comes. That is why he pledged his allegiance to Rhaenyra.

He doesn’t know who Daenerys is, when she will be born, or how her life will be. He just knows that Rhaenyra sitting on the throne is the only way to ensure the White Walkers’ defeat in the future and to fulfill Aegon’s prophecy that states:

“From my blood will come the Prince That Was Promised, and his will be the Song of Ice and Fire.”

While Daemon does love Rhaenyra, his loyalty to her and her claim is not just based on love. Daemon’s loyalty is primarily based on the vision he had at Harrenhal and the realization that only Rhaenyra sitting on the throne can save Westeros in the long run.

House of the Dragon Season 3 episode 2 will be released on HBO and HBO Max at 9 pm ET on June 28, 2026.
