Tennis legend Chris Evert shares heartbreaking health update, announces Wimbledon 2026 absence

The former tennis star Chris Evert shared a health update on Instagram on June 25. She wrote that she will have to skip Wimbledon this year as her ovarian cancer has returned for the third time.

Chris Evert shared that the recent health scans revealed that her cancer had returned.

“I have always believed in being open and honest about my health journey. This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned.”

She further wrote about her treatment, which included surgery and chemotherapy. She said that her therapies will be done in the coming weeks. Evert also added that she will skip Wimbledon this year.

“Because of this, I Will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health.”

Chris Evert also decided to take a break from her work commitments to focus on her health. She said that she will continue her battle against cancer.

“Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”


Chris Evert was first diagnosed in 2021

The 71-year-old tennis star was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021. Later, it returned in 2023.

After Chris Evert’s latest post, Martina Navratilova showed love for her longtime tennis rival with her IG post. Martina wrote:

“My friend Chrissie is a champion of champions and as such she will slay this monster again. We are all pulling for you, and know you will come out on the other side cancer free again- lots of love, m.”

For those unaware, the year’s Wimbledon series is slated to kick off on June 29 and wrap up on July 12 after two weeks. It will be held at the London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

In related news, Netflix is set to release a documentary, titled ‘Chris & Martina: The Final Set,’ which explores years of Evert and Navratilova’s dominance on women’s tennis. It will be launched on June 26.
