It cannot be denied that The Boroughs was truly able to bring life to a distinct storyline with the blend of mystery and horror. Hence, the cancellation of the show just after one season, even when the viewers were expecting series to continue, so that the unanswered questions that were left by the end of the first season disappointed many viewers.
The storyline focusing on a retirement community is unique, and the manner in which the characters handled the dangerous situation that came their way left an impact. In a video shared on Instagram, actor of The Boroughs, Denis O’Hare, who takes on the role of Wally Baker in the series, shares his revenge plan to “stick it to Netflix” for their decision to cancel the show.
The Boroughs star Denis O’Hare shares his “sweet revenge” plan to “stick it to Netflix”
The news about The Boroughs getting cancelled created an immense impact on the viewers, especially on the ones who were looking forward to a new storyline in the next season. Denis O’Hare is also among those who are disappointed with Netflix’s decision to cancel the show just after one season. He took to the social media platform, Instagram, and requested the viewers to vote for The Boroughs before the voting for the Emmys ended.
He urged the viewers to vote for his fellow castmates and also for the category of Best Series. If, through the votes of the viewers, the show wins the award, it will be a “sweet revenge” and also a chance to “stick it to Netflix” so that they can understand their mistake of cancelling the show. Denis O’Hare is not the only one disappointed with Netflix for this cancellation, as many viewers have also voiced their disappointment after the news of the cancellation arrived.
Through the years, there has been an immense change in the world of streaming, and The Boroughs faced a similar challenge. Right after its release, the show achieved 5.6 million views, depicting the possibility of a massive hit. However, after the first week, which amassed 9.5 million views, the number of views took a negative turn, and the show received only 3.7 million views.

It cannot be denied that there have been many instances when, despite the intriguing nature of the show, it failed to achieve the exposure of a large number of viewers. Hence, despite the emotionally charged and intense nature of The Burroughs, it was not quick to make a positive impact on a wider audience, which might be a reason for the show to get cancelled.
The huge budget for the show could also be a reason for the cancellation, as it is not easy to continue an expensive production. Whatever the reason might be for the cancellation of the show, it is heartbreaking that many of the questions that the series left at the end of the first season will now be left unanswered.

An intriguing question that The Boroughs Season 1 ends with is the glitching that Sam experiences. Co-creator Jeffrey Addiss previously spoke in an interview that Sam glitching “is a hint” and the storyline for the next season will focus on this aspect. The origin of Mother also remains unexplored in the first season of The Boroughs. Viewers were eager to know more about her whereabouts, especially her past, in the second season of the series.
Jeffrey Addiss also previously spoke about a “three-season plan” that they had for the series. However, as the series is now cancelled, it can be understood that most of the storyline that remained unexplored in the first season of the series will not get any answers.
