Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara has announced through a social media post that his estranged father has passed away.
The 34-year-old actor shared a throwback picture with him on Instagram, along with a caption, which read:
“My Dad, Roland Sabara, passed away last night. We only saw each other a couple of times, and I will cherish those memories forever. I know he did the best he could, and I know he’s in a better place now.”
Daryl Sabara is married to Meghan Trainor, and they are parents to three kids – sons Riley and Barry and a daughter named Mikey. Daryl was raised by his single mother named Sandra. She is a Los Angeles social worker. His father left when he was about one year old.
Daryl Sabara rose to fame at the age of eight when he starred in Spy Kids with Alexa Vega. They played siblings, a spy duo, Carmen and Juni Cortez.

Daryl Sabara has drawn attention to his family life following the announcement of his estranged father’s demise on social media.
He was born on June 14, 1992, in Torrance, California, to a Jewish mother named Sandra Krebs and a Polish father, Roland Sabara. He has one fraternal twin named Evan, who, after undergoing a gender transition, goes by the name Eve. The twins began their careers together, appearing in early television guest roles such as Love & Money, Roswell, and Will & Grace.
Daryl Sabara has credited his mother for raising him as a single mother after his father left him when he was one year old. In an interview with Mr Feelgood magazine, he told the outlet:
“I grew up without a dad..he left when I was one. So I didn’t have that traditional role model growing up and for me….. My mom was basically my mom and dad, and she did the best she could.”
He added:
“I didn’t have a dad in my home growing up, but from watching movies, the way I used to think about fatherhood was: Dad goes to work, comes home, and mom puts the dinner on the table. And my experience couldn’t be more opposite. I’m almost a stay-at-home dad.”
Darly had spent only limited time with his dad who remained estranged for most of the period. He recently shared a tribute to him on Instagram on his passing, stating that he would always “cherish those memories.”
Today, Darly Sabara is a proud dad to three kids – Riley, Barry and Mikey. His eldest child is Riley, who was born in February 2021 and is currently five. While speaking with Mr Feelgood magazine in June 2023, the actor shared his fatherhood experience with Riley, who was then two. He said:
“Riley is now teaching me to play. Kids are always in the present, and Riley is a constant reminder to bring me into the present and not worry so much. When I get into those states of play with him, it’s like a flow state. I try to lose my phone so I can just experience that joy.”
Daryl Sabara welcomed his second child, Barry, in 2023, who will soon turn three in July. The brothers became elder siblings to their baby sister, Mikey, born via surrogate in January 2026.
He met his wife, Meghan Trainor, in 2014 at a house party in Los Angeles. They reconnected through a mutual friend, actor Chloë Grace Moretz, who set them up on a date in 2016. Trainor is a singer known for tracks Dear Husband and Made You Look to name a few.
She shared with People magazine that after her first meeting, she fell in love with Daryl and wanted to marry him in a few weeks. The couple tied the knot in 2018 by incorporating Jewish traditions into their wedding.
