HBO Max is affordable again before House of the Dragon Season 3

HBO Max shocked everyone this Thursday by reducing its subscription cost by 40%. However, this reduction applies only to the three annual streaming tiers. Next year, the annual subscription plans would go back to their standard cost, i.e., what they cost before the current 40% reduction. This move was done with the intention of attracting fans waiting for House of the Dragon Season 3.

A lot of times, people subscribe to streaming services during a popular show. As the third season of House of the Dragon arrives tomorrow, many were expecting to pay exorbitant prices for the annual HBO Max subscription. However, the 40% reduction is not applicable to monthly plans, though. It applies only to the annual streaming tiers.

Want to take full advantage of the 40% reduction? Here’s how much the annual HBO Max subscription will cost:

There are three different tiers for the annual HBO Max subscription plans. The three tiers for the annual plans are named Basic With Ads, Standard, and Premium plans, respectively. Here’s how much they cost before and after the 40% reduction:

Plan Cost before the 40% reduction Cost after the 40% reduction
Basic With Ads plan $109.99 $78.99
Standard plan $184.99 $132.99
Premium plan $229.99 $164.99

Therefore, the discounted prices will be applicable only for this one year. After that, the three annual tiers will go back to costing $109.99, $184.99, and $229.99, respectively. If you feel that the annual subscription plan is too expensive for just House of the Dragon Season 3, remember that you are getting Lanterns this August and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone this December as well.

Therefore, you can catch not one but three major HBO event series this year on a single annual plan.

Why you shouldn’t miss the House of the Dragon Season 3 premiere?

One of the most hyped up elements of the House of the Dragon Season 3 premiere is the Battle of the Gullet. A recurring complaint about the second season was the lack of action. However, it seems that the makers have taken the feedback for the third season, as it promises to be an action-packed season. Olivia Cooke teased the battle last August in a Collider interview:

“Well, I think I can say for the show that it is, you know, it starts off with a bang. The first two eps were essentially supposed to be our finale last year. So you can just imagine coming into that sort of energy. It’s bigger and more ferocious than ever before, I think, is what I can say.”

Showrunner Ryan Condal revealed to Entertainment Weekly last month that the Battle of the Gullet is something he was looking forward to filming ever since the second season’s filming. Drawing parallels with the Battle of Helm’s Deep from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, he said:

“To try to tell this story without doing the Gullet would be trying to film Lord of the Rings without doing the Battle of Helm’s Deep. If we were gonna do it, we had to do it right. And that meant dragons and ships and multiple theaters of conflict.”
