Jelly Roll recently addressed his divorce from his wife Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord.
During a concert on his Little ASS Shed Tour in Saratoga Springs, New York, he told the crowd that this would be the only time and the only city he would speak about his divorce and said:
“Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends. We just got off the phone earlier today. Nobody cheated on nobody.”
He added:
“She just did a whole podcast about it. You can go watch it. Every word of it is the truth. That will be my best friend forever. Thank you for those 10 years. Bunnie, I love you, baby. Thank you for the next 10 years of friendship.”
The Country music star filed for divorce from his wife on May 18, in Williamson County, Tennessee, citing irreconcilable differences, following 10 years of marriage.
Bunnie Xo breaks her silence on divorce with Jelly Roll
Jelly Roll’s former partner of ten years, Bunnie Xo, opened up about her divorce in a recent episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, which aired on June 18.
In the podcast titled Divorce, she described the split as difficult but revealed that they are still having a baby together via surrogacy despite the divorce. She emphasized that the 41-year-old musician is her best friend and has always been her best friend. She said:
“I love that man more than life itself.”
She dismissed the rumors that she had been with Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger. She said:
“No, I did not cheat on my husband and leave him for Chad, or none of that.… I am so sorry to Chad and Nickelback for this happening.…I love them and it’s so f***ed up that the Internet can just run with a narrative and people just run with it.”
Bunnie Xo also shut down the rumor that Jelly Roll has been dating fellow country singer Jessie Murph. She shared that their divorce stemmed from a disagreement they had on Mother’s Day. She described them as a couple who would never have arguments, as they were both holding things in.
She recalled telling him to file the divorce papers but said it was out of anger and frustration. She said that she left and they did not speak for weeks. She added that although their divorce was not mutual, they needed a “wakeup call.” Bunnie Xo said:
“Was this divorce mutual? No, it was not mutual, even though I told him to file the divorce papers, I was speaking out of anger and just frustration. But was it necessary for us to have a wakeup call? … Absolutely. … My husband and I are ending this marriage on the best possible terms that you could ever have a divorce.”
Another reason which led to their divorce was the gruelling IVF process, including the loss of four embryos, which took a heavy toll on their relationship. During her Dumb Blonde podcast, Bunnie also touched on challenges related to fame, noting Jelly Roll’s more outgoing nature contrasted with her own experiences.
Bunnie stated that despite their divorce, they are committed to welcoming a baby together via surrogacy. The two will co-parent their baby and be a “one big happy family.”
Jelly and Bunnie tied the knot at a Las Vegas chapel in a spontaneous ceremony in August 2016. Their marriage came after they dated each other for a year.
