Star City Episode 5 brings forth an array of complications for Irina. The drastic transformation that happens to Irina from the beginning of the series to Episode 5 resonates deeply. Initially, Irina remained aloof and only focused on her task to spy on Tany and Valya.
However, things took a turn as she formed a connection with Tanya. Eventually, she does not think twice before risking everything for Tanya.

Star City Episode 5 sees Irina risk everything to warn Tanya about Valya
Valya’s truth about being the mole was already revealed in Episode 3 of the series. In episode 4, Irina also finds out about Valya’s truth. Star City Episode 5 progresses with the actions that Irina takes after finding the truth about Valya, as Tanya is now in danger as well.
The bond that Irina formed with Tanya through the episodes after she first arrived at her apartment becomes a propelling factor for the choices that she makes. Though her task after finding the truth about the mole is to report it, she becomes increasingly worried about Tanya’s safety. At the beginning of Star City Episode 5, Irina begins to press Tanya about the woman that Tanya speaks about. Irina then tells Tanya that it would be better if she went away for a few days to clear her thoughts.
Irina also tries to make Tanya leave for her parents’ house without informing Valya of anything. However, Tanya does not listen to her. Irina tries her best to make sure that Tanya leaves so that she does not have to be branded as a traitor. Tanya eventually asks Irina to leave the apartment, which causes Irina to open up about Valya’s truth. She tells her that Valya has betrayed the country and is working for the Americans.
Hearing Irina’s words about Valya, Tanya gets increasingly distressed, as she is not able to believe her words. Irina eventually tells the truth about her job in Building 12. She then takes out one of the bugs that were placed in Tanya’s apartment. Star City Episode 5 continues with Tanya finally realizing the grim situation that she is in.
Irina assures her that she will be able to give her a pass with which she can leave Star City. The extents Irina goes to protect Tanya leaves an impact. It cannot be denied that if she gets caught helping traitors, her life will be in immense danger.
In Star City Episode 5, Irina begins her plan to protect Tanya by starting to erase the tapes so that the truth remains hidden from Raskova. However, things take a turn when Irina draws the attention of Vika Yegorova. Right when Irina leaves her post to ask for the day pass, Vika goes to her desk, takes the files and tapes that Irina hid, and takes them directly to Raskova to put Irina in trouble.
Irina arrives to meet Tanya to give her the pass so that she can leave. Tanya begins to tell Irina that even though it all seems to be a dream, the past actions of Valya were finally making sense now that she is aware of the truth that Valya is a mole. Irina also urges Tanya to go to the address right after passing through the gate. She also plans to help Tanya leave the country, as she will not be safe.
At the end of Star City Episode 5, Irina returns to her office and gets summoned to meet Lyudmilla Raskova, where Vika is already waiting. As it is forbidden to contact her subject, which Irina has done by contacting Tanya, things begin to look grim for her. However, Irina quickly shifts the narrative and reveals the truth about Valya being the mole.
She tells Raskova that the reason she infiltrated the Mironov house was to find the mole. Instead of getting praised for her actions, Vika is punished for her actions and is also asked to apologize to Irina. Raskova is pleased with Irina’s actions and asks her for the location of Valya.
At the end of Episode 5, Tanya arrives to speak to Valya despite Irina’s pleas. She tells him that he will be arrested soon and needs to leave Star City, as they know the truth about him being the mole. Though Valya tries to make her understand that he tried his best to stop it, Tanya is not eager to listen to him.
Valya also urges Tanya to leave with him, but Tanya has no interest in doing so. Star City Episode 5 ends with Valya taking Pavel’s place. He arrives to take Pavel’s place in the capsule and is able to evade his arrest. However, things are not going to be easy for him if Sasha comes to know the truth about Valya.
