The comedy series Brothers will premiere on September 23 exclusively on Apple TV+. Filming began in Texas in November 2024 and concluded in June 2025. The team, during production, experienced disputes over the show’s creative direction, which led to West Read’s exit as showrunner from the series.

Out of the 10 episodes, 8 were filmed in Austin before the creative dispute happened. Read stepped down as showrunner, which led to a production shutdown, and the cast was sent home.

Lee Eisenberg, a producer known for The Office and Lessons in Chemistry, was brought in to complete the series. Read remained credited as an executive producer.

Paramount Television Studios assumed production in August 2025 after the merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global to form Paramount Skydance. The series joins Read’s The Big Door Prize, which premiered at SXSW, and Apple’s acclaimed sci-fi drama Foundation.

What can we expect from Brothers?

The two stars will portray fictionalized versions of themselves and alter the story into a meta-fiction genre similar to The Larry Sanders Show or Curb Your Enthusiasm. The concept is based on a real-life rumor about the actors possibly being half-brothers.

McConaughey’s mother had stated that she knew Harrelson’s father at the time of her separation from McConaughey’s father. That remark fueled fans’ speculations that the two actors could share the same father.

In the series, Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, pushing him out of his comfort zone. He ends up being an unwanted houseguest. His family moves onto Matthew’s ranch, sparking tension that changes their friendship into a family conflict.

The show intertwines reality with fiction by adapting a late-night anecdote into a scripted comedy.
