Jeremy Boreing has reflected on his decision of firing Candace Owens from the Daily Wire. The former co-CEO of the conservative media company appeared on the June 18 episode of the PBD podcast. Boreing, who stepped down as the CEO of Daily Wire in March last year, discussed the foundational days of the company.
During the conversation, Jeremy Boreing spoke about the milestones achieved by the media company in 2024. In the same breath, the Daily Wire’s co-founder mentioned the firing of Candace Owens, which he described as a “morally important thing to do.” He stressed that termination of Owens was “important for the health of the conservative movement.” Patrick Bet-David interjected and asked whether Boreing would have fired Candace Owens again 10 out of 10 times. Boreing replied:
“10 out of 10 times I would have fired her again. 9 out of 10 times I would have fired her two months earlier. Not a minute of regret.”
Bet-David asked Boreing if signing Candace Owens was a good move. The producer replied that he had “misgivings” when he hired Owens.
“I’ve said that I look back and signing her was the biggest mistake of my life. That’s not actually of my professional life. That’s not actually fair or true. Not firing her earlier is a bigger mistake, more of a bigger moral mistake. I had misgivings about Candace when we hired her. But on the whole, I believe that she would be that she was and would continue to be a force for good. I believed that we could um successfully help her trend in a positive direction,” Boreing said.
At the same time, he added that he “still believe” that Owens has the “most star power” of any person he has ever met, given he spent two decades in Hollywood.
Jeremy Boreing claims Daily Wire gained subscribers and revenue after Candace Owens’ departure
Earlier on the podcast, Jeremy Boreing shared that after Ben Shapiro’s personal brand started becoming bigger than the company, he felt the need of more faces in the company to endure the loss of any talent. Boreing noted that after that, the Daily Wire hired Candace Owens, Michael Knowles, and Matt Walsh. Boreing said that after that the comapany sucussefully made several movies in following years.
Jeremy Boreing said his strategy of diversifying the company proved useful, adding that it became evident after Owens’ exit. He commented:
“In 2024, it all came to sort of fruition because Candace Owens, who was one of our largest hosts, you know, we parted ways with her and we grew…We ended that year better than we started it. Why? Because the brand.”
Bet-David sought clarification and asked if the media company grew in subscriptions and revenue. Boreing affirmed that the Daily Wire improved on both counts in 2024.
“2024 is the best year of subscriptions and the best year of revenue in the history of the company,” he added.
In recent months, Boreing and Owens have frequently exchanged verbal vitriol on social media.
