Oliver Tree had a different plan for his fortune than most celebrities

Oliver Tree’s death in Brazil has shocked everyone this week. As fans around the world mourn the eccentric singer’s death, a clip about the singer has gone viral. In that clip, Tree discussed his plans for his will in case he ever died. It seems that the singer’s plans for his wealth distribution are unique and different from those of other celebrities.

The clip has many fans shocked because it is just two months old, and his answer has a lot of people touched because it is rare for celebrities like Oliver Tree to be selfless. Given the nature of his death, many are still reeling from the revelation that Tree isn’t with us anymore.

What did Oliver Tree say?

Tree appeared on the Zach Sang Show for an interview in April this year. With a runtime of over 55 minutes, Tree appeared in that interview with green face paint to look like Shrek. The official logline of this particular Zach Sang Show episode reads:

“Why is Oliver Tree dressed like Shrek? Is it performance art or deeply earnest work? Are there any original ideas in the world? And what happens when you spend two years recording a record across seven continents and 80 countries ranging from Africa to China to Afghanistan. Oh and a year in Antarctica. We endeavour to explore all of what the heck Oliver Tree has been up to.”

It further continues:

“Plus the story behind his new album ‘Love You Madly, Hate You Badly,’ the pursuit of joy, falling off the internet, remixing in Iraq, redefining success, being elected a chief by the Maasai in Tanzania, where he wants his money to go when he dies and so much more.”

That long interview featured the quirky-looking singer discussing a wide range of topics, including the then-upcoming tour and his plans for the wealth he had accumulated. When the singer was asked what he planned to do with his wealth in case of death, Tree responded:

“I don’t believe that any of the wealth, or things I get from it, are mine. So when I die, my will is set up so that no one is going to get a penny. If I have a wife or kids, they’re not getting a f***ing penny. I’m getting my kids through college, but they’re not going to have silver spoons.”

Then, Tree added:

“The idea is that when I die, all the money is going to go back to artists. I’ve set up a foundation called Dr. Oliver Tree’s Art Grants for Baby Geniuses, and it’s set up so that the interest generated from my music. But there’s room for other money, because when I die, my art will have residual value and will probably be worth more than it is now. People will finally appreciate my stupid f***ing videos and my stupid f***ing songs.”

Then, the singer went into detail about his foundation:

“I don’t believe in money going to education. I want it to go to the physical making of art. You’re not allowed to buy equipment with the money. You’re not allowed to go get an education and schooling with the money. You have to physically hire people to physically produce stuff — and you’re allowed to rent equipment to make things.”

We at Soap Central would like to offer our condolences to the Tree family.
