Following the reported death of singer Oliver Tree in a helicopter crash in Brazil, many have been looking back at his personal life and past relationships.
The 32-year-old musician, known for songs such as Life Goes On and Miss You, kept much of his private life out of the spotlight, although some of his past relationships became public.
One of his most talked-about romances was with fellow singer Melanie Martinez. The pair first became friends in 2019, and their relationship progressed by 2020 after photos and videos of them together circulated widely on social media.

However, in the same year, the couple called it quits. The Dollhouse singer publicly confirmed the breakup on Instagram, although she assured fans that she and Tree were on good terms. He reposted the statement shortly after.
Later, Oliver Tree spoke about the emotional toll of public attention surrounding their split. In a video shared online, he explained that fans continued to speculate about the relationship and believed Melanie Martinez’s music was about him.
“I had dated another artist and when we broke up, her fans came after me. She had asked them, ‘Hey guys, please let Oliver be. We’re on good terms.’ And crazy enough, that just made more people be sending me more rude messages and more things which I have no idea even how that is the response to asking someone to leave you alone.”
The Turn It Up hitmaker continued:
“She released an album recently, and her fans speculated that it was about me. She responded in the comment sections on TikTok also, being like ‘Hey, the album’s not about him.'”
Oliver Tree added that the online discussion and criticism affected him deeply. He opened up about his struggles, lamenting the chatter that contributed to his mental state.
“It’s been something that’s just kind of brought me to a pretty severe place of depression. People don’t realize that what they say or do has an impact on people. They think it’s not heard or not noticed. But yeah, it f***s people up.”
Oliver Tree opens up on exploring polyamory: “It goes with the lifestyle”
Outside of his relationship with Melanie Martinez, Oliver Tree was also linked to a handful of other women over the years, though many of those reported romances were brief and remained largely private.
In fact, he once opened up about polyamory during his chat on Logan Paul’s podcast in 2022. When the social media personality asked him if he was dating anyone, the singer responded candidly:
“Can I talk about this? I’ve basically been exploring polyamory. I have a bunch of girlfriends. I wish I had an excuse for this. I think it goes with the lifestyle.”

Oliver Tree further explained:
“Well, I just have been exploring it, you know. For the right person, I could be monogamous. I was always monogamous my whole life. I was like, ‘I’m a monogamous guy. And this is all I could ever do.’ And then when you explore more. When you live the lifestyle we do. I literally am on the road. I haven’t lived anywhere for six months, and I lived for one year during COVID in LA. And then before that I was traveling for five years, no house, just suitcases. It’s hard for me to have, like a girlfriend when I don’t live anywhere.”
The singer also acknowledged that not all relationships last, that some people come and go, and that the important thing is that he is honest about it if it doesn’t work out.
Reports of Oliver Tree’s death emerged after a helicopter collision in Brazil involving multiple people. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Tributes continue to pour in for the singer, such as comedian and stunt performer Steve-O, who took to his Instagram to honor Tree.
