Lee Kirk’s upcoming film Nimrods is set to release on August 14, 2026, in theatres. The film follows three high school friends who embark on an adventure-filled trip after believing that their band has been hired to play for Green Day’s New Year’s Eve show.
Turns out, the story is inspired by Green Day’s real-life journey before they achieved mainstream success with Dookie, their Grammy-winning album.
Inaugural Entertainment has partnered with a fan-owned entertainment company, Legion M. This gives an opportunity for the fans to support the film through the Legion M fund financially. Kirk, who previously worked on Universal’s Ordinary World, had co-developed the script with the help of the band members.
Nimrods officially premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and was previously titled New Year’s Rev before Inaugural Entertainment took over.
The title of the film may sound familiar to Green Day fans. Turns out, Nimrods takes its name from the 1997 Green Day album that got double platinum records. Here’s a look at the cast of Nimrods.
From Mason Thames to McKenna Grace: Nimrods cast and characters
The coming-of-age film features Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, McKenna Grace, and Ryan Foust in pivotal roles. However, the group receives a call that offers them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Little do they know that they are being fooled into it, and it’s nothing but a prank. The friends hit the road and drive to the performance location. On the way, they face numerous hurdles and misadventures. To know what happens next, watch Nimrods on August 14, at your nearest theatres.
