Raising Kanan Season 4 recap you need before the fifth chapter

As Power Book III: Raising Kanan heads into its fifth and final season (scheduled to arrive on Starz on June 12), here’s a quick refresher on the explosive events that reshaped the Thomas family and pushed Kanan Stark closer to becoming the ruthless figure viewers first met in Power.

The fourth season was packed with betrayals, shifting alliances, devastating losses and a growing power struggle that left nearly every major character changed by the time the finale arrived. Unique, Raq’s rival dr*g lord, who returned in the Season 3 finale, established himself as an old enemy who further disrupted the complicated bonds between Kanan and his mother.

Additionally, Krystal and Famous’ shocking deaths pushed Kanan to the edge, forcing him to take matters into his own hands in the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale.

By the end, loyalties had been shattered, lives had been lost and the Thomas family stood on the brink of collapse.

Here is a complete recap.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4- Unique’s return and Famous’ death

Among the changing dynamics between Kanan and Raq in Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4, Unique’s return added another layer of intrigue and danger. His violent & volatile return to the Thomas family’s lives threatened to upend the progress Kanan had made. While Kanan was determined to expand his operations beyond his mother’s influence, Raq was operating without any muscle and Unique’s team-up with Quan was proving dangerous for the mother-son duo.

Among these escalating tensions, Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 Episode 4 took a turn when it was revealed that Famous was dead. While Kanan and Jukebox were searching for Famous since the beginning of Season 4, the police eventually found his body and revealed that he had been tortured. The Season 4 finale revealed that Snaps and Pop ordered Famous’ murder but Kanan and Jukebox were far from the truth.

Pop killed Kanan’s girlfriend in Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4

While Kanan and Jukebox were reeling with Famous’ murder, the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale came with another shocking death: Krystal. Kanan’s girlfriend was gunned down by Pop, leading to a harrowing cliffhanger.

Elsewhere, Phil stabbed New Jersey mobster Stephano in the chest and left him bleeding and dying on the floor. However, as Phil later revealed to Unique, Stefano escaped, leading to deadly consequences for them in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Unique was determined to gain the upper hand over Raq by spilling the details of their short-lived affair to Lou.

In the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale, while Kanan was still grieving Krystal’s death, he only had revenge on his mind. After he got intel that Raq was after Famous and O-Cee’s murders, he suspected that his mother had orchestrated his girlfriend’s death. While Jukebox tried to convince Kanan that Snaps and Pop can’t be trusted and even tried to warn Raq, Kanan headed to his grandmother’s grave in the finale to ask for forgiveness for what he was about to do.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 ended on a shocking cliffhanger

Kanan’s grief over Krystal’s death and his escalating tension with his mother came to a brutal head in the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale, when he showed up in front of his mother with a gun in hand. After the police revealed that a Black woman was seen leaving Krystal’s apartment after her death, Kanan’s suspicions were more than confirmed and he only had revenge on his mind.

Before the brutal cliffhanger, Snaps and Pop expressed their desire to get into business with Unique and Kanan. They also introduced the latter to their nephew Branford, aka Breeze, setting up a major plot in the protagonist’s growth in Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5.

The final moments of the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 finale saw Kanan accusing his mother of Krystal’s murder. While Raq tried to reason with her grieving son, calling him one of the most important things in her life, Kanan was not ready to listen:

“I’m done making excuses for you and for me. Tonight I’m gonna do what I should’ve done.”

As Kanan pointed a gun at his mother, Raq silently accepted her fate and closed her eyes. The protagonist uttered his final words to his mother before pulling the trigger:

“You don’t want me to have nobody but you. You want me to all to your f*cking self. That’s why you killed them all. Fame, Krystal, even my own f*cking father. That’s why I gotta do this right now. So you can’t nobody else away from me.”

As the screen went blank, a single gunshot was heard and Raising Kanan Season 4 concluded on this shocking cliffhanger, leaving Raq’s fate hanging in the balance.

The fifth and final season will premiere on June 12.
